Is the book or the movie better?

Or rather, does the film do the novel justice? Because I often find that when I read a book that is later turned into a movie, the movie isn't as good. I have seen some excellent adaptations though and having fallen in love with the book already, I just want to know if the movie is worth seeing as well. Thank you.

I thought the movie did a good job of adapting the book, on the whole, and was visually stunning with good performances from the young actors. However, there is so much more of the character interaction and development in the book (especially of events towards the end) that make a critical difference. These are things that do not translate well into visual media, but are well-developed in the book. If you liked the book, the film is definitely worth seeing -- you can fill in the missing bits from your own background knowledge. If you liked the film, the book will enrich your experience even more.

I thought the book was a whole lot better.. I couldn't even finish the movie because I was not really into it

I will give my controversial take: I read the book a few years ago, and although I thought it was alright, it didn't affect me anywhere near as much as A Thousand Splendid Suns. So the book was a disappointment and didn't do much for me.

Now that I watched the movie several years later, I was surprised by how much it moved me! It's a great film! First time I've ever been able to say that I liked the movie more than the book.
