Ok it's still bugging me

First of all, I actually enjoyed this film much more than I thought I would. The acting was surprisingly good, and I like how they achieved the whole 'serial killer' effect without tons of gore. I also feel it was more realistic in many ways than other films in this genre (i.e how Liz was confused with how to properly use the guns. I love how in most films like this, they just assume the average 19 (or however old) year old girl has experience loading, firing, and reloading various gun models lol. I know I would be pretty damn confused)

BUT *spoilers*
The scene where Liz goes in to save Kristy and manages to shoot the guy...she unties her friend and then just whacks him twice on the back??? I don't know why but this is still bugging me! I would take advantage of the fact that he's unconscious and make sure he's either dead, or will not move without medical help lmao! I mean...whack his head...multiple times.. his legs...find a brick... do whatever! But the fact that she just left him there with a minor gunshot and two halfhearted hits to the back irked me! I know she probably was not thinking clearly but still...crazy serial killer is on the ground, defenseless...now's the time to take advantage of that and make sure he doesn't get up again xD
Did this bug anyone else or is it just me? :P

I agree, that always bothered me too. But then if she did kill him, the movie would have ended at that point.

I saw this movie back when it came out, saw the sequel a few days ago, and just watched this again last night.

Yes that scene did in fact ruin the movie.... it wouldn't have been a good ending for them to just kill him right there... but yeah they could have written that WAY better.

Seriously.... She could have just stomped his head repeatedly.... put some zip ties on him..... I mean that was it.

Ladies if you are reading this..... learn some self defense.... no I don't recommend fighting with large deranged men.... but when they are passed out on the ground.... face down.... with a bullet wound to the neck... YOU KILL THEM.

It bugged the hell out of me. I know you need clichés in horror movies to make the story work but c'mon.

I can forgive the writing of her not finishing him off because not everyone has killer instinct even if they deserve it.

But then she hits him on the back instead of the head. So that's just making out she's stupid, as is not looking for anything to tie him up and even worse leaving the gun beside him??

Hell, a lot of people would have just run and abandoned their friends, notice how the girls abandon Ben.

The film did a good job of selling the terror. Kristy was reduced to a blubbering, demented child, and Liz was realistically petrified… so I can buy that she wouldn’t want to touch Mick’s body in case he springs back to life - but then they subvert that by having her ineffectually beat him with the gun stock.

Surely there'd be knife in that shed, or something sharp enough to cut his jugular? Liz was very resourceful so it doesn’t add up to make her retarded when the plot requires. It would have been so easy to write in a reason as to why they were out of options.

It doesn’t sink the film, which is a modern horror masterpiece, and if I was being generous I’d say Greg McClean was deliberately throwing in an eye-rolling horror trope to troll the audience, but it’s damn frustrating and makes McClean seem incompetent (the Wolf Creek TV series doesn’t help him in that respect).
