Did anyone else love May Boatwright?

I wish that i could meet someone like her in real life, because she was so nice, even though she was really sensitive and emotional. Sophie Okonado brought the character to life in this movie. When she died, i was sad that she did that, and i wished that she couldve changed he mimd. I think that her sisters shouldve put her on some medication, so that she could help keep her mind regulated and at peace. I wonder if they even had medication for the mind ready for the public in 1964. That stuff back then may have even caused her to get worse or have some adverse side effects.

May is my favorite character in this movie. Sophie Okonado was excellent.

After May died, I think the movie lost some of its power and edge.

In 1964, there were some effective medications, but many had side effects that were terrible, sometimes permanent. The dosages they used in those days were much too high for most people to tolerate.

This is one of the best movies I have seen in the last few years.

I grew up in the 50's and my mother was always manic/depressed or as they call it today a bipolar disorder. I knew something was wrong with her when I was 12 years old. She was not diagnosed with a bipolar disorder until around 1980 because in the 50's the Drs. did not believe that women who were depressed had real problems. There were no anti-drepressants or treatment available. The only option in the 50's were Mental Hospitals. I grew up in Dallas, Texas so it was not a small town. I think that May would not have gotten proper medication in the 50's in a small town in the South.

I think she was a classic example of an empath https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-d&q=empath. It explains everything about her behavior.

Oh my gosh, I fell in love with her. She was the most kindhearted person I have ever seen. If only people in real life were more like her.

I could not watch the scene where they found her in the river. I hadn't read the book, but I just knew what was going to happen. May was really the joy of this film. And that line where she said "Sometimes not feeling is the only way to survive" broke me. She had so much compassion. Sophie Okenado was breathtaking. Just her vibe and her smiles were wonderful.

A previous poster said she had depression. I don't think she did, I think more maybe autism?

I don't think May had autism, but I feel that she bounced back sometimes in the movie. One minute, she was joyful and the next minute, something would remind her of April (her twin sister who died when she was little) or something similar and this caused her to get upset. The next time I saw her, she would be happy again. My aunty suffers from depression and I see traits of her in May. Even though she loved her sisters and Lily, she knew that nothing could bring April back and I think what happened to Zachary at the theatre didn't help. Do you people think that everything building up over time and not being told about the Zachary situation by her sisters (she was only told by Greta) caused her death? I think so. If you think differently, that's fine!

I love Sophie in this movie as May. I loved her scenes with Dakota because she had so much love to give her. Their conversation about 'kissing' was hilarious to listen to. When May said a guy kissed her all the time, she said she felt like she was going to burst :) Their bond was clear to see in the movie. I have never seen Sophie in anything else before. Definite winning performance. I think she did a better job than Alicia Keys, even though Alicia was fab as well. Latifah and Dakota were the best for me :) Their bond was so strong throughout and I think it would be in real life as well.

WAY TO GO, SOPHIE!!! :) Go, girl xxx
