How do artsy films like this get financed?
It's odd but also brilliant. But how on earth do you get something this bizarre and unconventional financed?

shareThere are a few options. One: crowd sourcing from websites like kick starter or indiegogo, family investors (like a rich uncle for example), yourself if you're already rich, if a pro-art film producer really likes the script (like Megan Ellison), or go to an indie film production company (usually they're struggling for content).

Noope.
Crowd funding was created by Marillion with their album Marillion.com in 1999.
That being said I don't think that was the case with this movie.
Yeah, it's odd all right, just chock full of wtf moments. (See my post above.)
Schrodinger's cat walks into a bar, and / or doesn't.
Miranda July was an established artist before this movie was made, and she probably enticed more than a few producers to invest in this endeavor. Also the budget was low.
shareFind some wealthy people who want some artsy cred and can afford to lose the money.
shareI don't know how these things work but I'm assuming a film like this is relatively cheap - just a few million and with tax breaks people can invest and yet save elsewhere. Also you may not need a single someone else’s deep pocket to dip in to - sometimes they put together groups with spare cash willing to have a go for the pleasure of being involved and the possibility of a big win. You never know, you could be investing in the next Four Weddings and a Funeral.
