Has anyone read the book?

It's really funny because I just finished reading Charlotte's Web (the book). I can't believe they're making a film of it. Well, it was a good read so it could be an okay film!

Has anyone else read it?

I remember reading this book for the first time when I was 6... I cried so much.

What a funny post... I have read this book SO many times and read it to my third graders last year. I could not get through the ending (too many tears) and my students had to read it by themselves. I wanted to read the ending out loud so I could get the reaction out of them; I should have known better - it always gets me.

As for the whole "too much other homework - no time to read." How silly! Part of my students' homework every night is to read! And there are multiple studies out on how homework really has no effect on students' achievment, but reading every night does. Think about it - you have to read in EVERY subject: Math, Writing, Science, Social Studies, etc. It is the only subject that goes across the curriculum. You have to comprehend what you're reading or you won't understand anything.

And reading is boring?!?!!!! I can't even believe that someone would write this!!!!!!!!!!! I am 23 years old and have a stack of 10 books - all bought at a bookstore (because a book is never a waste of time or money!) - just waiting to be opened and read. My parents actually have a room at their house that is called the "library" because they have so many books. It is my job as an educator to instill in my students a love of reading since it is important not only now, but in your entire life. You may not use other skills that you learn in school on a daily basis, but reading you will use EVERY day.

When I was a child, 45 or more years ago, my teacher read it to the class chapter by chapter. I've always remembered Charlotte. I just now finished reading it myself. I remembered the story like it was yesterday. What a sweet story. And, yes, I cried.

Back in 1977 or 1978, I had to read and study the book "Charlotte's Web" with my 2nd grade class...and as a treat, we all went on the school bus to another town to see the 1972 original movie of "Charlotte's Web" (the voices are Debby Reynolds and Paul Lynde) with my classmates that year. :) I also reread the book in the library because I enjoyed it a lot. :)

Now, this new movie came out on DVD, I am going to watch it this weekend. *smile* I am 37 years old now, and the book brings back fond memories. :)

I remember seeing this at my local theatre "Many Moons Ago" and overhearing a kid replying to the adult with him, "It's a BOOK??"
Anyhoo, I also recommend reading The Annotated Charlotte's Web. 
