Romance between Billy and the therapist ... random and contrived

Just seemed coincidental that Billy would randomly get assigned to the therapist who was dating Matt Damon. And then their romance just came out of nowhere ("so you want a cup of coffee")

I feel that they wanted DiCaprio, our protagonist, to have a romance scene, and they needed to give Vera Farmiga some screen time in an otherwise minor role. They could have done without the relationship between Billy and her.
