One of cage's best performances?
Top three Cage performances that I liked till date, in no particular order:
Lord of War, Leaving Las Vegas, Face/Off.

I'm going to say "Lord of War" and "Bringing out the Dead" as Cage's bravura performances though I like him in pretty much anything (except The Wicker Man - what were they thinking?).
shareI actually think this is one of his worst films.
The absurdity of the plot and such aside, his character doesnt go anywhere or do anything. It doesnt grow, its not a likeable or hateable character. Its just there as set dressing for a movie.
Matchstick Men, Adaptation. Those are good movies in which Cage actually acts.
This is not much better than con air.
I would disagree with that.
No, Yuri Orlov does not 'learn' and 'grow'. He doesn't decide to stop arms dealing and join the Salvation Army. He doesn't suddenly see the light. There is no happy ending -- well, other than he's going to walk free, which might at least be a happy ending for him!
It's the entire point of the movie, isn't it? Everyone around him changes -- his brother goes "up" and "down" a few times, his wife sees right through him and leaves him, the fed tries to talk some sense into him, but HE JUST WON'T LEARN. His extremely cynical ending monologue sums it all up -- as long as there is a market for him, he will deal.
I think this is one of the strongest points this movie made.
Matchstick Men is probably my favorite Nick Cage movie

Yes indeedy. NC playing a complex character - loved it to bits.
Great in Moonstruck, The Rock & Con Air too.
1. Wild At Heart
2. Birdy
3. Raising Arizona
4. Moonstruck
5. The Cotton Club
I didn't like Lord of War, Leaving Las Vegas and Face/Off at all.
Cage was also great in Kiss of Death, bad movie but he was very good as the bad guy.

This is definitely his best performance in a VERY long time. I came into the movie with very low expectations but was pleasantly surprised.

I have a love/hate relationship with Cage, but in this case I loved him. I'd rank it as his third best performance after Leaving Las Vegas and Adaptation respectively.
Bringing out the Dead, Matchstick Men and a few others are also worthy of mention.
he's not a bad actor, its unfortunate he's in such crappy movies though. this one was just perfect for him.
share1. City of Angels
2. The Family Man
3. Lord of War
4. Face/off
5. The Weatherman
Anyhow, he looks charming in Lord of War, so handsome!
I watch and I get inspired.
