Rapunzel & Flynn's age difference

I ADORE this film, I think it's beautiful (both narratively and visually), it made me cry and I feel for the characters. However, does the age difference between Rapunzel and Flynn bother anyone else? He's supposed to be around 26, while Rapunzel's only just turning 18. 8 years isn't a lot of time in the grand scheme of things, but it's a considerable gap for a teenager (especially one who's been locked in a tower her whole life). I'm 18 and if I brought home a man in his mid-twenties, people would be iffy about it.

I'm just wondering, does anybody know why Disney did this? They easily could have made Flynn a 20/21 year old or something. I don't know, it just kind of bothers me.

Thoughts?

Flynn seemed rather respectful after he dropped the rascal behavior and lets be honest...Rapunzal needed a good boyfriend

I think it's extremely creepy. Why did they have to do that exactly? Why could he be the same age or just a little older? It's gross. Not only that but she looks even younger than 18 and he looks 26. She is probably one of the youngest looking Disney girls.

People saying 8 years isn't much are crazy. Maybe for a 30 yr old and a 38 yr old but at 18 those 8 years make a HUGE difference. And who cares if young women dated old men a long time ago? 12 yr olds also got married so should we have a Disney (for kids) movie about that? Not only that but the girl has magic hair and a horse is in charge of the kingdoms guards, this isn't based in real life. Make her older or him younger. Stop excusing this disgusting stuff. There is no excuse for this age gap.

Also I don't care for how extremely thin and clingy her outfit was. Sick. Especially considering she looks like a 13 yr old.

It is something of an age gap for a fairytale princess and her love interest, but that actually didn't bother me nearly as much as giving a 17-year-old girl the look and body of a 13/14-year-old. It's like, what age were you guys shooting for her again? Most 17-year-old girls very closely resemble the women they will become in 3 years' time. They do not normally have that underdeveloped look Rapunzel had.
