$40 million budget.

Sheesh. Talk about a big budget slasher.

For comparison;
- The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003) - $9.5 million
- Freddy vs Jason (2003) - $30 million
- Wrong Turn (2003) - $12.6 million
- TCM: The Beginning (2006) - $16 million
- My Bloody Valentine (2009) - $14 million
- Friday the 13th (2009) - $19 million
- A Nightmare on Elm Street (2010) - $35 million
- Texas Chainsaw 3D (2013) - $20 million
- Halloween (2018) - $10-15 million
- Child's Play (2019) - $10 million
- Halloween Kills (2021) - $20 million
- Scream (2022) - $22 million

Scream 3 (2000) & Scream 4 (2011) had $40 million budgets too...though the first two were less. I imagine these were cases of the all involved getting major pay rises to come back for more.

Also when you take inflation into account, House of Waxs budget becomes $51 million in 2018 and approx $57 million today.

Outside of slashers you had films from around the same time like
- Final Destination 3 (2006) - $26 million
- Saw III (2006) - $10 million

Dark Castle really liked to splash the cash.

A lot of the budget probably went to the actors and music. Also the movie had a bunch of pretty neat practical effects in my opinion. I vaguely remember this movie making a pretty big splash when it came out, I dismissed it. It's actually a pretty cool movie.
