Can dogs really catch mice?

I have heard some people say that dogs can catch mice, I suppose that would be possible if they were in an open room with no objects for the mouse to run and duck behind, but most homes have furniture and in the time it would take for a dog to run around an obstacle, the mouse would be long gone into a wall crack or underneath the refrigerator, they are also just too clumsy to catch a mouse and would surely destroy everything in it's path while attempting to chase it down. A cat could accomplish this feat much more gracefully

Yorkies (Terriers in general) were basically created/bred for nearly that exact purpose so many years ago in the UK. I believe they'd take them in the mines to catch and kill the mice and rats. Put them in pits filled with mice and take bets how many they'd kill (Old school cock fighting?)

My little Yorkie Don Diego will go after a mouse, and he does not like bees or flies in the house either. He will carry on and show you where they are till you kill them and then he wants to get them himself. We have to keep him from the bees though because we don't want him getting stung.

A friend's weiner dog also caught a big rat and killed it. Now the dog runs out there hunting for more rats. And this dog isn't in good bodily health either.

I've seen terriers go berserk on mice and rats and shred them mercilessly.
