The Birth of Corporate Wokism?

This movie tried so hard to "make a statement" while failing to entertain in any way. Pretty much the order of the day in Hollywood. Did Crash start this awful trend?

Check out the Aaron Sorkin chapter in "Boomers" by Helen Andrews. She argues it goes back to The West Wing. Sorkin had no intent to make a statement. He even made an effort to represent the other side of the aisle. That effort failed because Hollywood had become so insular. But the end product was still a success because it flattered all the right people.

There were lots of liberal shows before Sorkin: Murphy Brown, Family Ties, the whole Norman Lear catalogue. But they were made with integrity, even if I don't share their perspective. They wanted to engage with viewers. The West Wing kicked off the trend of pandering to the politics of producers.

I'll have to read that book.
