A very overrated comedy!

I've watched this movie 2 times in the past and I think it's an overrated, I didn't even laugh once. It just looks like a stupid boy movie about a nerd with a very boring life and very bad acting story and cinematography. Its way to over rated;this movie might as well be called life of a boring nerd!

Ya that's exactly what the movie is OP

You have to take it for what it is, instead of expecting it to be a split-your-sides hilarious. You either like it and go with it, or you don't. Not for everybody, I will acknowledge.

I understand that now and I'm willing to give it another try I agree I realize now that it's not the kind of movie that involves toilet flatulence and crude humor it relies on Schumer that makes you have to think.

I didnt find it funny, except for a few small moments, so if viewed as a comedy I would give it low marks too. That said, as an awkward, quirky, and extremely discomforting character study with an interesting "revenge of the nerds" plotline, I think it is underrated. It is also a good comment on our society and how superficiality makes us ALL into fools.

The movie has scarred me for life, but scars build character. :)

I understand your opinion perfectly. When I first saw this movie when my mom right is it from Blockbuster total exes back in 2005 or six my whole family didn't like it they said it was stupid and boring and my sister and my coworkers at Pride Industries said they didn't like it and I saw it twice is this thought it was boring. I'm willing to give the movie another try I didn't know we was the kind of comedy where you have to actually think very hard and understand it really well,I realized it's not a kind of comedy film that for people with mental problems or people with low IQs,I'm not suggesting that you have mental problems are low IQ if you were assuming I'm saying that I'm sorry but that's not what I'm attempting to purposely say it's hard to call me for smart people but if you don't like the film I will understand and respect your opinion but I'm willing to give the filming of the trike just don't expect a laugh and tell your cheeks were comity just expect a chuckle comedy

I'm sorry that my latest message board wasn't written very correctly,I can do a lot better than that it's just that my iPhone screwed up on me while I was voice texting The message boards responding to you.

For the film to be 'overrated' a lot of people would have to know about it but they don't. That's the definition of the word 'overrated'.

Napoleon Dynamite relied on subtle comedy which you'd either find the jokes or you wouldn't. Most people that didn't notice the jokes probably enjoy Big Bang Theory instead.

Basically humor where you have to think unlike Happy Madison movies.

Honestly, I think this movie is a masterpiece in terms of its comedic brilliance. Easily in my top 5 comedies of all time. I can also understand how others can not see the humor in it at all. I think my mom could watch this movie and not crack a smile the entire time. By the end of it ( if she had not fallen asleep ) she would probably tell me how horrible she thought it was. The thing is we do not find the same things humorous or funny at all, while others do. I honestly think most people laugh at some of the most dumb and idiotic things. There are times in my life that a whole group of people will be laughing and I am standing there straight faced or pretending to laugh. It takes a lot to actually make me think something is funny. The reason this film is hilarious is because ND does not understand that he is viewed as ridiculous to everyone else. Same with Uncle Rico ( although most would consider him "more" normal ), Kip is ridiculous, Pedro is ridiculous, Deb is ridiculous and Rex is Ridiculous. Most everyone else in the film line up to what I would equate to being normal people.

What makes the film so hilarious is the lines that are delivered between the characters and how they respond to them. Not only that, the movie seeming like it was filmed in the 1970's-80's also makes it seem much more extreme. "Back in 82, I used to be able to throw a pig skin a quarter mile" Uncle Rico. What makes this line so funny is the way it's delivered, who it was delivered to ( Kip obviously has a lot of admiration for Uncle Rico and eat up every word he says ) and the fact that a quarter mile is 4.4 football fields in length ( the best quarterbacks in the world can only throw a ball 70-80 yards ). There is a variety of different things going on between the characters that are kinda "read between the lines" type deals. Some people get and some people don't. You just happen to be one of the people who does not get the humor and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. The problem I have with all your comments is YOU find it unreasonable that other people can find joy and humor in this movie. Just because you can't view something a certain way through your reality does not me we can't. Stop looking at life through your own eyes and try to actually have an open mind. SMDH

I "Get the humor" it's just not very funny. Oh yeah, it's so deep to try and figure out how many yards a 1/4 mile is, and therefore I just don't understand the humor, get real, that is not deep nor clever humor, it's simply stupid, which is why is probably appeals to you.

Lol, if anything this movie is UNDER RATED. It has a 6.9 on IMDB, which isn't exactly bad, it's actually a decent score, but for a movie that's this iconic and popular it's not that good. I don't get why people think this movie is over rated. It's different. I like that it's different from other movies. It's pretty realistic in my opinion, and it's pretty funny, but you have to get that kind of humor to think its funny. It's so quotable!

I remember when I saw ND in theaters in college when I picked up my friends before the movie they smoked a bunch of weed beforehand. They laughed through the whole thing and I think I only laughed once. I have no idea how this was a hit movie.
