The End... Women and Men VOTE HERE (Spoiler Alert!)

For those that have seen the ending, lets vote... Did they die in cement or live to be old people in that nursing home? No votes for him dying in the parking lot, that's dumb.

My vote : They lived.
I'm female.

I think they did the cement thing but managed to get out and laughed it off... Then they left the stupid dare box that had created so many problems for them...

And once they were older, married and everything, had digerated the whole story and learn their lessons they went back searching it and take it out of the ciment... And they finally used it for its real use : keep sweets... That's why you see them using it in the end... And that's only at this old age that they finally manage to say to each other that they love each other even though it was obvious for their whole life...

That's how i see it! And i'm glad they didn't show the ending because that way i'm convinced my ending is the truth! lol I wasn't one of those disappointed by the ending at all. I found it great. ;-)

Because the color was so weird at the end and that's always the case when people are in heaven.

I thought it was pretty obvious. It never occurred to me that it might be any other way.

reply

yeah, but that effect was similar at the beginning, too, when they were kids.

it's really interesting how most replies are from the female gender and most of them agree that they died, which is romantic and frenzy but at the time so realistic considering how their relationship devloped and how imposible it is for their love to happen in this world. well, that's my perspective.

Well, it just keeps going. Thanks for all the votes. I want to say how proud I am of all the "females" who voted that they died and avoided the need for a "happy" ending, but I hesitate saying that because it sounds condescending and that is not my intention. So I won't say that.

Keep voting! I watched this film again last night and I still think they died. Ironically that doesn't bother me in the least. Well, maybe a little, because I would like to have seen them really get to (at least) physically express their true love finally. I always hate it in movies when a couple is unable to consummate their love, especially if they are thwarted by another, someone jealous who can't stand for them to get together. I'm a hopeless romantic. The older I get the more I love romantic movies, which I keep from my friends who would rail on me to no end if I told them that. I could watch Cousins, or Falling In Love over and over, and I know that neither of those movies are pillars of cinematic brilliance, but I think they both capture that aching want that falling in love creates.

Even though I am married, and have been for 17 years, I still develop stupid crushes on people, and two times have "fallen in love" with someone. I think every married person —at some time or another— develops crushes on people, it is simply part of being human. Of course, what you *do* with that is the difference between staying married and divorce. I find that I don't expect it from other people, and it has surprised me whenever it happened. Maybe that is a self-esteem issue, I'm not sure, but I just don't expect that anyone is ever pining away after me (even writing it seems absurd). One of my oldest son's girl/friends (that’s what he calls girls that are just friends) told him that I was "a nice-looking man", which my son told me while poking a finger in his mouth to simulate gagging. I told him that I appreciate his regard for my physical appearance, to whit he said it wasn't that, but because "I'm so old"! Yea, 43 is just so ancient! Frankly I was shocked that she would ever say such a thing to my son! Things are *way* different that when I was a kid, I'll say that. Anyway, it was a nice boost to my ego nonetheless.

Keep voting!

First I would like to say that i was really disappointed by the ending: I knew it was going to happen due to the the beginning bit but still, i wanted some semblance of happiness and regular chick-flickiness, but the stuff we got felt like a sham - the ending was a bit of a cop-out. I mean, if they wanted to have them die, then just end after the burying in cement, don't add in the stupid attempt at happiness.

Anyway, i wanted to believe that they lived but i think they died. If i recall correctly, the box when they were old was all nice and new looking - it wasn't burnt or dented from the car crash (i don't think). Therefore the old people bit was an illusion or heaven or something.

Overall: They Died

i first time i saw it, i thought they died but then the other scenes came in and i thought "oh good, they haven't died."

but when i watched it again, i realised that all the flashbacks of the times they were kissing never really happened. like when they were 8 near the bus, and when she had her exam. i think that the nursing home part shows what would have happened if they'd kissed along the way at any of those times, rather than letting the game take over. but in reality, they didn't kiss at those times, and they followed the game instead.

i think my favourite idea in the movie (this isn't really related to whether or not they died) is that although the game makes them miserable and alone and lots of other bad things, if it wasn't for the game, they wouldn't have the connection they have at all, and that would be much worse.

anyway, they died. mm.

I think them dying together is the perfect way of ending their game and admitting love to each other. The scenes after that looked like 'what if's to me. Of course, I think the director wants the audience to choose what they believe, so it really doesnt matter how it really ends. For me, their choosing death just seems more romantic and fitting to their story.
