I'm surprised no one commented on how racist this family is

The Stone family firmly perpetuate the incredibly wrong idea that the opposite of racism is colorblindness. Even if Meredith had been pointing at Thad's boyfriend that doesn't make her racist. It means she has eyes. It's just awfully ironic that they harp on her for pointing out that people have differences (deaf, gay, black) but all they do is complain about how different she is from them.

I'm also super disappointed Thad's boyfriend didn't seem to have a line in this movie. I feel like any sensible black man would have been like "chill out white people! I am black! Thank God someone noticed!" He's not the deaf one, so he definitely heard her.

And to top it off they start laughing and acting like Rachel calling a guest racist was CUTE after that guest left the room distressed. The Stone Family = the most backwards, uncompromising, bigoted family ever.

I agree and I think the part when SJP was pointing at the "black dude" she was just saying that he got the part of the 4 words that she was doing. She was not pointing at him because he was black and black was part of the quote on the paper.

Exactly. Amy was just trying to screw around with Meredith. It had zero to do with being racist.

I always thought that when they were at the dinner table. When Ben says that he'd like a little black baby, and Everett asks "Don't you already have a little black baby? Then Ben asks, "Can you dig it?" I just always thought that it was so rude to Patrick.

You are right! This movie looks like it was funded by KKK.

LOL - this family is more boring & racist than those morons from SOUL FOOD!!

reply

you are right, and its called inverted racism. I get it all the time as a half black and white mixed race girl and people constantly saying no offence to me everytime the word black is mentioned in a sentence.

funny how nobody says it when the word white is mentioned...

people love to whine to me that they are not racist and that they "dont see colour" but are quick to apologise profusely when the word black is brought up in regular sentence.

How do you deal with 'em when they say such stupid crap?

Say, do you hear that? It's the sound of the Reaper.....

reply

Not much I can say is there lol

Usually I'm just like okay!! but if I was to say anything more I then receive a torrent of "but I'm not racist!!! but I'm not racist!!"

even though I know they're not, and yet they've offended me more by singling me out and drawing attention to my skin. It's like them basically pointing at me saying "YOU'RE DIFFERENT!!!.but dont worry, we wont treat you differently..."even though they have.

funny how it works eh??

I agree with the other post, Meredith was not pointing at Patrick to suggest the word "black", it was to acknowledge that he had a correct word. I also agree with the post that a bit of humour after Amy's outburst could have gone a long way to making for a happy evening.

Colorblindness is the incredibly right idea. As MLK said, we need to judge each other by character, not color. This country was well on its way to that ideal until the past few years, when idiots who believe otherwise started insisting that the most important thing is race. Now we are, once again, segregated into racial groups, and everything is all about race. I hope you morons are happy.
