So Austin had NO IDEA what ' Cinderella' looked like.

Even if he didn't know her name, and the mask was hiding her face, he could've recognized her voice and blonde hair.

He could've limited him search to only blonde girls instead of holding auditions for the entire school.
Plus, didn't her cell phone have a camera phone on it.
Yes, flip phones in 2004 DID have camera phones, they were just smaller, he could've looked through it and possibly find pictures of Sam.

I think there was a password needed on Sam's phone. And yeah it was ridiculous how he never recognized her. Someone did make a good comment about that, though. They said him not recognizing her was to show that people do look at people like her but they don't take the time to see those people. She said something to him like "maybe you were looking just not actually seeing."

That's maybe the point they were trying to make

You can only take this two ways: Either Carter is too stupid to see the finer details or this was ignored to slow the plot in order to make Sam more of a mystery.

Lol his name was Austin not Carter

I agree. He should have at least narrowed down the choices to blonde girls...unless he was convinced that she was wearing a wig that night. And surely, he should have remembered her height after talking to her for at least 30 mins...even her voice. You can't be that blind or deaf, especially if you're attracted to someone. I would try to remember every detail about her.

I thought it was ridiculous too, though Sam was kind of the "invisible" girl at that school, and a lot of men (particularly teenage boys like Austin) tend to be totally clueless about the little details when it comes to other people, including women.

The phone was locked
