I hate this movie---and firefighters

This is maybe the worst piece of crap I've seen since---well, actually I can't think of anything that sucked as bad as this movie.

1: It sickeningly capitalizes on the nations unquestioning love of firefighters
after 9-11.

-Have you guys ever met a firefighter? Most (not all) of them are
homophobic, arrogant, hero-complex, frat boys that save people just to
feed their giant egos. They're no better than cops.

2: The dialogue is sappy crap. Who wrote this junk?

-"Tell Linda I love her... That I've loved her from the second I saw her."

-"But I make you this one promise, tomorrow when that bell rings, we will
be back on the truck, because you were the bravest of the brave."

A NY Times best seller is better written than this crap.

3: The situations are retarded. Where are the paramedics? Why are they on the
roof of a burning building? How can a dying man chisel through a 2-layer
brick wall with a stick he found in the rubble? It's ridiculuous.

4: The final song is sooooooooo bad I laughed out loud in the theater during
the funeral scene. It was so cheesy and predictable that I was able to sing
it out loud wihtout having ever heard it before.

-"Saw a shooting star like a diamond in the sky,
Must be someone's soul passing by"
-"Shine your light down on me
Lift me up so i can see
Shine your light when you're gone
Give me the strength
To carry on, carry on"

Eeeech, the worst. This movie is HORRIBLE!!

i actually agree with alot of that. But its still a decent movie. Firefighters aren't all bad like u say. It's defiantly disrespectful to those you risk lives ( for whatever reasons)for us. I would say the movie APPROPRIATELY capitalizes on the nations unquestioning love of firefighters after 9-11.

Yes, its a little predictable, a bit cliche, cheesy, and has some sucky dialogue. But through all that the acting is good, and the overall plot is handled well.

First of all I think someone is jealous of firefighters...

I have family who are firefighters and I have met many many firefighters and your explanation of them is ridiculous. Not one of them have any big egos or whatever. They go into a burning building when everybody is running out and that takes ALOT of guts. I have seen a house fire in person and its pretty dramatizing. If your house ever catches on fire guess who is going to be the first ones there to put out the flames and maybe even save your sorry ass no matter what.

Cops are different though (especially suburban cops). I have gotten robbed a few times and they could have cared less. One cop even tried to frame my friend. Most of them want to be state troopers and have a bad attitudes. There are a few good ones out there though.

It sickens me that someone hates firefighters.

As for the movie I thought it was a nice entertaining story of a fireman and a tribute to all firefighters.

What do a cop and a firefighter have in common? They both wanted to be firefighters when they grew up--lol.

On a serious note, firefighters, paramedics, cops are all lumped into the same catagory. A lot of the time, it's the whole "Blue uniform=Authority=F**<k you" mentality. Or maybe someone's relative got trapped in a fire and died before the guys could get to him, or someone's father was being worked on by paramedics, then they heard the medics making gallows jokes, it could be any number of factors.

Some firefighters do have big egos, we call them "T-Shirt Firefighters" or "Wallet Card Firefighters." These are the guys who wear Fire Department shirts everywhere they go, talk loud about the job (even if they don't know a nozzle from a *beep* hole in the ground) and really only joined to take part in the barbeques, ballgames, and etc.

As well, we do occasionally say things that are off-color. It's a psychological safety net. I don't really want to use any specific examples, but let's leave it at "Hamburger Helper" and "Person hit by train" become combined into one thing, and things of that nature.

Police Officers--especially those in suburban areas-- are well-known, and don't want to do anything to piss anyone off (they pull over a kid who's daddy they golf with and decide to drop the DUI and let the punk kill a 5-year-old when he slams into a minivan) Anyways, yeah, some police officers have their heads up their asses....But then again, so do some construction workers, store clerks, and shoeshine boys...It's the INDIVIDUAL.

It was the "worst movie you've ever seen," but you watched it ALL the way through?

I have to agree with the op, this is the WORST firefigher movie out there, backdraft is far superior to this garbage.

Hmm. This thread makes me wonder if the El Repetto is a sociopath just trying to get reactions out of people. You've got to wonder why else someone would take the time to come on the message boards of a movie that they hated just to post a topic about a group of people that they hate. Sounds very time consuming...

It says more about the OP than about firefighters.
