movies about gorgeous gays. again.

i am getting quite tired with movies with gay guys who are just taken off the cover of Men's health and Vogue. they do not represent me or majority of gays. and i find it really difficult to relate to their "problems" or even believe in the story. there are so many movies about "how tough it is to be a hot gay guy who looks like a model". try be average and gay. that's much tougher.

so the first half of this movie i had to force myself to keep watching. usual soft porn. at the end though the movie kind of redeemed itself.

in general: does anyone know any gay movie where the main character(s) is average?

You're right. And it's not only about the actors, it's about the story. Christian "discovers" Aaron (and it's love at first sight) only because he's so cute and stares at Christian who is so sexy... And I don't think that love at first sight between men who are not openly gay (or don't know themself to be gay) "represents the majority of gays" (am I wrong?).
However, it must be said that this is a film about "miracles" (or coincidences). Maybe that's the problem.

Gee, what does this sound like? Hmm... all the people in straight films as well! It's something that goes with movies: all the main couples are hot. That's the movie industry for you. Delve into European cinema if you want to find average-looking actors (and even then...).

In 'Broken Hearts Club' one of the storylines was about a guy who was unhappy about being average looking and how he became happier with himself.

@S-Dave: The fine quote from that storyline (as you know since you've commented on it) is: Everyone can't be straight. Everyone can't be beautiful. Everyone can't be the same, Patrick. Some people are just gay and average. We're the strongest I think.

The recipient of those wise and wonderful words, Patrick, is played by Timothy Olyphant, who was not exactly a homely guy. That said (and as a guy who was pretty much average in my prime), I'm fine with attractive leads in gay movies, particularly romances (where there's an element of fantasy for the audience).

Sorry Leftie but I have to give you a big old WRONG!!!! The actor who played Patrick was Ben Weber not Timothy. I just went and checked out the movie to be sure. While Mr. Weber is a good actor and probably a nice person in the looks department he is indeed quite average. You should get your facts straight before you make your argument.

OOPS! One of my senior moments there. Ben Weber/Patrick certainly was a notch behind his friends on the eye-candy-meter. There were so many hot guys in the film that I sort of forgot about him - which actually bolsters the OP's argument.

Well I didn't forget it. Also the two guys involved in the storyline about the two ex-lovers who in the end get back together were pretty average looking. The black guy wasn't all that hot either. Not ugly but nothing all that special. So that leaves..let me think..three guys. That means the gorgeous guys were a minority in the movie.

You asked if there were any gay movies where the subject was average.
I saw one once with Patrick Stewart in it called "Jeffery".

Generally though, if you want people to watch a controversial and still somewhat taboo movie like this, you lay some eye candy around to pull them in. Once there, the story can do its thing.

Check out my list of GLBT movies...some of the are foreign but I am sure there are some that you will like...

Take a look of all romantic comedies. Lets face it there are more movies about attractive people than "average". It makes them easier to market etc.
Movies are a distorted, artistic, stylized view of the world.

Movies usually feature good-looking people. Get over yourself.
