Poor Casting for May

Surely they could have got a hot female to play this role. It would fit in well with the movie I think. Instead they have an unattractive person and every scene she was in I was bored to death.

reply

People have got different taste. Who would you have chosen to play this role then? Big-boobed blonde page3 glamour models? She's just this different type of pretty to maybe what you like.

reply

shape doesn't matter although i think she was cute but they truely needed to bring an actress with better performance, she culdn't act at all

to the person who posted a few posts back about the May character being one of a typical "submissive" asian women stereotype with squeaky accent/voice - you need to get over it. first off, May in no way was portrayed as "submissive", she was shy, yes - not very agressive in her sexuality like the eva mendes character, surely - but is that such a negative thing to try to bring to the screen in a character black, white, brown, purple, or whatever? (there are plenty of "typical asian female stereotypes" the other direction too with the "dragon lady" bulls#@t people try to pin on poor lucy liu - so don't even try to say that's the issue!) - the personality of the character was none other than a sweet, beautiful, nice girl. quit reading into it looking for an excuse to get riled up. oh, also, about her "squeaky" accent and voice - there was nothing "squeaky" about it, to my ears - and as far as the accent goes, it was not an exaggerated or thick one wherein you couldn't understand what she was saying or anything ridiculous like that. it was an acceptable accent for an asian character - because i'm not sure if you know this but for a lot of asian-americans, english was not their first language and therefore some of them DO speak english (usually perfectly grammatically correct english, by the way - which is more than can be said for most american people for whom english is their first language!) with some trace of accent.

Totally with you on that one, redmimi22. Nicely put.

all you living at home with ya momma b*tches talking about the "May" character are full of sh*t. thats why people like you come on message boards and hate, she is pretty and has a decent figure. hardly any of you talking about her could get someone halfway decent and you talking about some chick that wouldn't even take a second look at you with $100 bills shooting out ya A**.

I'm pretty sure they should have cast Hulk Hogan as May, because he has so much acting skill and drawing power that this movie would have instantly won an Academy Award. I don't care if Hulk is a man and has a mustache and a painted on beard and is bald, because Hulk Hogan's acting skill would make the audience forget about all those minor details. I mean just look at his work in Mr. Nanny. When he read that little girl that bedtime story, I broke down in tears because he put so much emotion into his part. Just imagine that emotion being used in this movie. I would have to guarantee it would change the world. It would likely bring about the end of terrorism and nuclear proliferation throughout the world. I must say that the Farelly brothers missed a golden opportunity to end violence in the world by not casting Hulk Hogan to play the part of May in this movie. The world would have been a better place if they had.

Redmimi, it really sounds like you are ignoring the obvious for the sake of being PC. May's character was TOTALLY portrayed as a typically submissive character unable to defend herself, which WAS really in keeping with the sterotype of Asian females (at least in the media).

The deferential tone of voice, rapid speech, nervous laughing at the end of every sentence, and looking at Damon's character for validation everytime she said something. Coupled with her body language which was drawn and reserved.

If you ever go to Japan in particular you'll find MANY girls who act in this very subservient 'lady-like' way, especially with the nervous laughter.

In fact me and my cousins were making fun of her character while watching this film. Why? Because we ARE Oriental females and are nothing like that.

In fact May is typically a geek.

I mean, she spend many years dreaming of damon's character behind her computer... this kind of girls can't be a sex bomb :D Wen Yann Shih is really cute with her shy and embarrased smile, I think this is the best you can find on internet. (except if you pay :D)

The lady is drop-dead gorgeous. Eedjits.

She's smart too. Graduated from college within 3 years with a 4-year degree at age 19. Was pursuing a career in medicine at Johns Hopkins until the allure of Hollywood high-class prostitution, i.e., The Big Screen, overshadowed it.

Beautiful *and* brainy. That's hot.

I thought Wen was gorgeous even before I saw those photos.

I think Kelly Hu should have played May.

To eveyone...

She did FINE as May. I am not Asian - but I know some Chinese and Japanese, I do shopping at various stores, I've dated, had/have friends etc etc.

Wen Yann Shih as MAY was just fine for the part. Anyone here who thinks otherwise SHOULD look themselves in the MIRROR. Guess what? Not all of us are the "beautiful people" - and some of those are UGH in my book.

WALK (Kinnear) is the ACTOR type, hence - his girls were hotties, babes or those with large tracks of land (Eva Mendez). In case ya didn't know.

Bob (Damon) is a SHY AVG type of guy. And MAY should NOT be a smoking hot girl. Wen is an above avg looking Chinese girl. Her "acting" in personality and expressions are that of NON asian actors that I've meet. Her character personality was for the character of Bob and they succeeded.

Also, for those WHO called Wen unattractive... do YOU have a girlfriend or wife that is AS good looking or as nicely shaped. Yes, I'd like to have fun with those beach bunnies in the movie (bounce bounce) - But I'd talk to Wen at a party or club... hmmm, reminds me of this BABE girl from Mangolia I meet a while back - I almost stole her from her "date" ;)

Now the girl who I thought was very CUTE and HOT in the movie was Cher's Assistant - Elaine Curtis. But looks like she's done with her acting career as Stuck on You was her biggest gig.

Shes a good looking girl i feel, and also i doubt they wanted to get some hot model type for matts character,as he was meant to be classed as shy,and suffered from mad panic attacks, due to probaly living in a small town where he knew everyone, doubt he had the confidence to go out into the big world, though of course his brother wanted to do and did.

reply

I'm not sure if it was poor casting or not but I think her character could've stood to have more dimension. I mean, she was basically just a simple, shy asian woman. She didn't get to have much personality and crack a few jokes here and there.

Eva Mendes' character on the other hand was awesome. Like she was the life of the party and nice at the same time.

reply

Are you serious? She was super-hot. What's your sexual orientation?

She talked and behaved like a retard though.

She isn't unattractive, just less hollywood and more sweet. She was a good fit for "Bob".

reply

Shes hot to me, all you fat hairy slobs make comments about Hollywood's unreal casting but when someone less than "perfect" gets cast you bitch about it.

I would like to go back in time and kill the idiot who created the term "reimagining."

reply

Thank you! I cringed every time she was on-screen, her acting was so bad. She must've thought she won the lottery getting a part in a movie with the likes of Matt Damon and Cher. A total miscast.
