How do you prononunce "Haute"?

Like "oat"?

Yeah prety much. Silent H, aute. The english word oat has a bit too strong an O sound, if you weaken it a little then yeah. Aught is maybe a closer example, a short sharp aught.

Really? No long "O" sound? It's been years since I took French.
