The Carrie Fisher scene

This scene had to have been made up and didn't actually happen in real life because it's so odd (although maybe not for Hollywood) and it went nowhere.

Carrie plays a religious person who picks Dawn up off the streets in a drug and prostitution area, but doesn't take her to a shelter or police station but to her apartment instead. I kept thinking they would explain this scene more, but the Carrie Fisher character never appeared again in the movie. I was waiting for her to turn back up again in another part of the movie.

It doesn't seem odd at all that a street junkie would come into contact with a good samaritan/holy roller who would try to help them. I didn't expect the Carrie Fisher character to turn up again. I think the point of the scene was to demonstrate the nature of the John and Dawn relationship. And show that Dawn was going to go back to John every time, no matter what. There was no helping her or getting her out of the lifestyle she was in.
