Who else could have played Dewey??

Every time I watch SOR I marvel at Jack Black's performance as Dewey. I know that he and Mike White were friends and White wrote the part with Black in mind, but if that wasn't the case who else could have possibly pulled it off? Who could have been as funny, loathsome, lovable, musical and crazy like Black? I am drawing a complete blank on this one...

It was Jack Black basically playing himself which is why its such a great movie. Of course no-one else could have done that role.
