Very Odd Watching This...

We were about half way through when I realised I didn't know what the plot was supposed to be!

Bloom's character is like an NPC or something, who's inadvertently landed up as lead in something which we don't really know where it's going...

I see the director's cut is supposedly miles better so perhaps I will give that a watch at some point but it's hard to imagine it can improve it that much.

I never saw the Theatrical Release. Last night, I got about 1 hour into the Director's Cut, and things seem pretty fleshed out so far. There's a lot of dialogue so I watched a few scenes a couple of times to be sure I was getting all the info.

This video can show you how the Director's cut fills in critical information. But, be warned, don't watch it until you've at least given the Director's Cut a watch. I only watched the first 7.5 minutes so far, b/c I don't want to spoil the rest of the Director's Cut that I plan to watch tonight.

Did you enjoy the Director's Cut in the end?

The theatrical was ok-ish in terms of spectacle but as I said in the OP kind of aimless in terms of plot, rather seeming quite randomly driven.

He's just a blacksmith who's wife has committed suicide and who's kid has died. His father just seems to turn up (randomly?) and asks him to go with him to Jerusalem. He declines but then having fairly randomly slain his priest decides to join them after all!

The caravan is ambushed and half of them die, including, eventually, his just met father. He'll just go on to Jerusalem anyway though because... Then his ship capsizes because... why? Leaving him - for some reason - and a top of the range horse (lucky that!) as the sole survivors!

Another random event - some guy wants to kill him for his horse! - but no matter, he's despatched and it's off to Jerusalem still!

He gets there and some dudes just so happen to pick him up and take him off to some magnificent grounds, which he's now the lord over!

But there's a problem - they have no water! Let's dig a well! he suggests. Boom! We have water... Never mind why no one. Ever. Previously thought to do this...

THEN and only then, some kind of plot begins...

Hopefully the Director's Cut sets it's story out a little better!

So, finally finished it tonight. The Director's Cut did explain a lot more, but for me I was not invested enough in the characters to give a damn about any of them. It really was weak sauce. Now, I wished I would have just skipped over this movie (like my instincts were telling me to do for years).
