Movie is 2 decades old and it doesn't show

Decades used to have a distintive look and feel.

Now it's harder to place things. Especially this movie.

Fashions they wear could be things bought today.

The apartment's decor looks fine.

Hair fashions are also still in fashion.

The department store looks basically how they do now.

The only thing that would date this movie is if they show cars, TVs or other technologies.

For sure. On the fashion side of things, specifically, I think they were trying to go for a classic look, which seems appropriate in most decades. But I agree that the movie could've come out yesterday and it wouldn't seem like something that was filmed 20 years ago.

And I agree broadly that movies, basically post-2000, just don't have a look and feel that is distinctive of their era. 70s movies feel very different from 80s movies and 80s movies feel very different from 90s movies, but a 2004 movie doesn't feel that different from a 2014 movie. The only way to date a movie now is the kinds of technology that is seen in the film.

Sometime in the mid-2000’s culture stopped moving forwards and, if anything, has started to decline. Movements like Woke have killed progress, and there’s a sense that the West is just… dying.

Anyway, Merry Christmas 🙂

I agree. In fact, I was just sitting here not more than an hour ago watching an old kickboxing highlight from the mid-80s and thinking about the 80s and early 90s was just a cooler era than what we have going on now. The rapid advance in technology has, I think, done more harm than good, especially the rise of social media.

And yeah. . . Merry Christmas!
