I mean that. For the very first i was really kinda scared of a villain in an action movie. You know, all the bad guys in this sort of movies have been some people laughing evily in the camera and stuff. But when PTH tells Mr. Cruise that he would kill Cruise' dearest, i really believed it.

I feel the same! Last night TV was showing this movie, I re-watched the last fighting scene between Hoffman and Cruise. And Wow! Hoffman is really threatening! He looks like he could win. He acts very well.

What intrigued me was that he's been threatening in other flicks - "Talented Mr Ripley", for instance - but was still a completely different character. A lot of actors just fall back on the same mannerisms over and over - PSH never seems to.

I agree. Philip Seymour Hoffman in general is one of the greatest character actors of our time. never saw him play a role I did not love.

shareThe guy was all smoke and mirrors (granted, a fine s&m - PSH is truly GREAT, but still that). He barely had 10-15 of screen-time and his presence was not felt throughout the film. So a "could've been" in my book. And oh, the fact that he does not kill her in the end makes it just more lousy. Everything that was built up on the story and PSH is waaaaaaaaasssssssteddddddd! So faiL!

Wouldn't say greatest villain ever but he defintley was a great one he's a great actor. And i'm actully happy Ethan wife survived and i like that she was the one who killed Musgarve.

I agree. I think that "davies" is the kind of killer who incites fear without having to use all the dramatics. No evil laughs, no screaming at the top of his lungs while only inches away from the protaginists face. No not necessary at all. All one has to do is simply look in ones eye with all seriousness and explain very plainly what they are going to do to you. Given the fact that everyone knows his background (i.e ferris) no one would even think that he wouldnt follow through on his words. I prefer this kind of villan in all my movies. granted you dont get too many of this sort.
Now now now..im not saying your ugly, im just saying your not pretty.
He acted well in this, but I wouldn't call his character the greatest villain ever.
