Other movies like City of God?

This is by far my favorite movie of all time and I've seen it 5+ times! I am looking for other movies like it.

So far I have seen City of Men and Elite Squad (plus its sequel)

Any suggestions?

Sin Nombre is a very grity film similar to City Of God. Its one of my favorite gang-related movies.

well, they had an indian version called "salaam bombay", it was well received but not anywhere as big as intense as this one! The gang and crime in bombay is as big as any metro-politan city in the world( from drug mafia, religon, turf lords, slums and what not! More like sao palo of this side. Cant call LA because, LA looks like a desert compared to density of bombay! cant do chicago either as chicago was purely drugs and all!)

child gansters is a new concept( in usa they had teenage gangsters, I forgot that cult movie with both sean penn and tom cruise in it!)

Similar theme, but this one is a masterpiece. The fact that City of God has a higher rating, speaks a lot about people's bad taste

Lol. Because someone doesn't share the same opinion you do doesn't mean they have bad taste. *beep* off you pretentious hipster. City of God is a fantastic movie, deal with it.

I found a similarity with Slumdog Millionaire (2008) wich is also a gangster movie.

One of the movies I thought of when seeing City of God was A Bronx Tale (1993). The movie revolves around a kid growing up around gangs and other kids who get involved with them, but is at the same time trying to not get involved himself. So you've got some similarities there.

'Slumdog Millionaire' is very similar!

It has almost an identical narrative and timeframe, but with a different location! :)

I think Amores Perros is very good. Its set in Mexico City though, so technically Central American.

City of Men is also very similar to this. I think its the TV series that this was based on.

Also you should watch Elite Squad and Elite Squad 2. Both are Brazilian and I think Elite Squad 2 is on par with City of God.

wow thanks this movie was great ! maybe cuz im bulgarian and born just post communist era .. just as the movie starts but everything about it i just loved !
