Tired of bad geography in movies....

Why is Hollywood so cheap? They spend hundreds of millions on a movie, yet can't get the geography right. I don't know how many movies I've seen that is suppose to take place in Asia, Africa, South America, etc. and I know it's shot in the same damn location: HAWAII.

I've only been to Hawaii once but I've seen enough movies to know that the mountain shots are clearly in Hawaii.

There are no jungle mountains in Africa that I know of. Yet, during the whole movie, you could see the mountain backdrop in the background. That is clearly in Hawaii.

Who are they trying to fool?

I think you're the one in need of a geography lesson. First, what defines a mountain? In Calif we have Mt Whitney at 14,600 ft and there is Mount Konocti at 4,600 ft. Trust me, there are hundreds of mountains in Africa with jungles. They just don't look like Mount Everest.

So there eas no Tarzan king of the jungle?

I was fooled - and I worked in Nigeria for the UN for five years - and quite startled to read here it was filmed in Hawaii.

Cameroon is the country to the east, and it is famous for its jungle and mountains. (So are the Congo, Uganda and Gabon.) These are all in Cameroon.

obelix99, I'll ignore your own "bad geography" and answer ..."Who are they trying to fool?" About 90% or more of the people who see this or any other movie. Most people who see the movie have not been to the place the movie is set in, or the place it was actually filmed in.
Making a movie is way expensive, location shots at the actual location add hundreds of more millions.
Movies are not real, its all pretend. Spain and Morocco play the part of the American West for example. Bruce Willis is not really a seal, John Wayne was never a Marine or a cowboy.

I agree with the OP in principle, but in this specific case the landscape and terrain did not look like Hawaii to me. I actually came to this page to see the shooting locations. I knew they would never film in West Africa, but thought it might be Central America.

Uh there are mountains in Africa, there are volcanoes in Africa.
