Which story lines would you cut?

I would cut the one with Martin Freeman and Joanna Page, and the one with the guy who goes to the US to get laid.

Which ones would you cut out?

reply

The British guy going to America.

reply

Colin's story would definitely get the axe if I'd had any say, even if it is amusing...it's just not much of a story.

reply

This story line is actually pretty realistic. There are American girls who would give a guy the time of day (that they would otherwise ignore) strictly because of their accent.

reply

My guess is that most people like it, but I'd cut Colin Firth's storyline. I always find it the least interesting and the least engaging. Not that it's bad, just my least favourite.

reply

I absolutely agree, this is the one I found most boring.

reply

Oh gosh, no! The Jamie and Aurelia story is my favorite!

reply

Yeah, I have to stomp on you as well. EVERYONE loves Colin Firth's storyline.

My vote is for the porn stars and the guy who goes to America.

I want the doctor to take your picture so I can look at you from inside as well.

reply

love colin, would also cut the british guy and the "porn star"... cut out "mr. darcy", how dare you ;-)

reply

I'm surprised how many of you want to cut the charming innocence of the John and Just Judy story. Are you scared of skin?

reply

Nah, I loves me some skin. But that sketch specifically goes over the line, AND I want to show this movie to my 14-year-old daughter. She's the one who squirms and wants me to fast-forward when stuff like this is on the screen, not me.

This story line can be cut and the movie continues without anyone noticing. I know this, because Love Actually was shown on a flight I took, on a plane that did not yet have the individual selection at each seat, that is, everyone saw the same movie. When it came on, I wondered how they would possibly deal with the porn story (you cannot show that to any child). Simple - they cut it out entirely, and it made no difference to the movie.

That, and the stupid story of the dork going to America and hanging out with five chicks. Ya, cuz that happens all the time...

reply

The porn actor fill-ins...yeah...not needed...

I fast-forwarded past those scenes and didn't miss them one bit.

"Shake your hair girl with your ponytail"

reply

I'm watching the TV version and it completely cut out the porn fill in storyline and you don't even miss it at all. The also cut out the Jaime story line but kept him in parts of the movie so Colin Firth is just popping in and out and learning a new language for no reason. It's oddly funny.

I'm erasing you and I'm happy!

reply

I loved John and Judy. they were so innocent and cute despite their crazy job.

reply

"My vote is for the porn stars"

Agree, it simply looked so out of place and didn't have much relevance to the story.

This been said, Filth's storyline and the guy who goes to america are both interesting and I would totally keep them.

This is probably as british as a romantic comedy might get... And also one of the most impressive british cast ever.

reply

Definitely get rid of the British guy going to America -- pointless - also didn't care for the porn star fill ins or whatever they were

reply

I think the term is body doubles.

reply

The body doubles story is the one I'd cut

reply

The Jack and Judy story I'd cut. And my absolute favorite storyline is Colin Firth and Auriela - so charming!

reply

Removing the porn stand-ins and Colin visiting America would disrupt the balance of humor vs. drama. I thought thought they were both very funny storylines. Without them Bill Nighy's storyline would seem out of place. If I HAD to choose, I'd cut Laura Linney's story.

reply

I agree 100%. The body doubles and Colin are some of the funniest parts.

reply

Wow - lots of hate for the Jack/Judy story... but I like it... Watching Martin Freeman celebrate his kiss is just too much fun.

I honestly wouldn't cut anything - but if pressed I would drop the Laura Linney story - but again - I really wouldn't drop anything. Great movie.

reply

It just aired in America and Freeman was cut.

I'd guess either Linney or Kris Marshall would go next, to get it down to a typical two hour movie.

Her story didn't end romantically happy, so that's why she would go, but I think if this aired in the states, she would have to stay as a token American, so Marshall's would go next.

reply

I didn't care for this movie too much but I did like that there was at least one unhappy ending (realistic).

reply

One? I could count at least 3 but that's one of the things I love about this movie! Not everyone lives happily ever after and that's true to life! To be fair, I found all the love stories at least somewhat realistic unlike some lovey dovey films where they meet in ridiculous circumstances and everything is perfect! That just doesn't happen!

"This is my age! I'm in the prime of my youth, and I'll only be young once!"

reply

I'd cut the Laura Linney line, but grudgingly...I love that one scene in the beginning, "how long have you been in love with..."

All typos are hereby blamed on my iPad.

reply

I have the Korean dvd of this and the Freeman scenes are absent. I didn't even know about them until I sat down with friends and watched the US dvd version. It was quite a surprise. Like watching Bambi and discovering porn inserts.
I'm trying to find a blu-ray that is edited like the Korean edition, if anyone knows of one.

reply

I"m with you; I'd cut the Linney storyline. It was annoying (just turn off the phone for 20 minutes, girl) and unrealistic.

But then there'd be no Rodrigo Santoro (my god, how beautiful). On second thought...

reply

The movie had all these examples and definitions of love, and that's why I love it (hah) so much.

The Sarah/Karl storyline definitely makes me cringe because of course I was hoping a relationship would blossom from the holiday party, but (as I stated in another thread) the message was that when it comes to love, family comes first (it was Sarah's responsibility to take care of her ill brother).

That being said, the only moral I got from Colin's storyline was that American women are easy. That one had little/nothing to do with love...so the movie could've done without.

More like "American girls are totally into British guys" xD
