Disappointment

Some while ago I decided to go watch this movie with some friends because it had such high ratings on imdb. We watched it, kind of appreciated it, but for no more than a strong 6, perhaps a weak 7, it wasn't more to it than that... That was the opinion of all of us!

So, I was just wondering who else found this movie quite as disappointing as we did? I'm looking through topics in which, probably die-hard W&G-fans, all very cheesy say that this is the 'greatest', 'hilarious', 'fantastic' etc. (animated) movie!
I'm getting the impression the high rating back then was just because a lot of fans decided to strike imdb together, all giving 10s, to get it into the top 250... What do you, objective moviewatchers think?

Oh and by the way, I really do like English humour and many other kinds of it, just not the not-funny, cliché and TOO British lame humour. And, yep, I think Wallace & Gromit contained too much of that childish content.

The movie wasn't to your taste and that's ok. I went in really liking Wallace and Gromit so it makes sense I would like the style. Yeah, it's a little hard to take a 30 minute show and turn it into a full length feature.

I never saw the shorts before seeing the movie...but I really like the movie. Charming, funny...and I like the creepy, horror-type element to it. The music was top notch!

And listening to the commentary, it didn't seem to me that it was "slapped together" or an "extended 30 minute episode". The creative team really seemed to care about what they were doing and put a lot of heart into the thing.

Can't wait to see the new one!!

you watched it, you can’t unwatch it

I did like it - but I have to say that I much preferred the trio of shorts that preceded it. For me at least, these initial ones were just the right length, whereas The Curse of the Were-Rabbit ran a bit too long, diluting the effect.

Still worth watching though.

childish content? its a movie for children!!

I was never a Wallace & Gromit "fan" prior to seeing this movie, I didn't even know what it was until this movie came out. I enjoyed it though. I was like 12 when it came out though. I think I would still like it now though. It was a cute movie and it's really good for all the little kids out there.

I say what I want. I do what I want. I get what I want. End of story.
Why so SERIOUS?

...I thought that this film was terrible.

It lacked the charm and humor of the short films, and it was twice as long.

I felt the same. I love the shorts and have watched them over and over, but I didn't like Chicken Run at all and thought the Were-Rabbit was just OK. So I'm not sure that watching the shorts would improve your opinion of the W&G movies.

reply

This movie was cute and charming. But not much more than that.

I really love Wallace and Grommit -- but for some reason I was a little disappointed too. Not to the point that I didn't like it; just thought I would like it more. One reason that occurred to me was that Wallace and especially Grommit should have been in it more. Their previous short films revolved around them and Grommit was the key in all of them. Still, a funny movie and enjoyed it.

I'm another
Love W&G in all other incarnations, but this one is just so flat. The humour while still there, so many little touches that we expect, it somehow misses the mark for me. The story is bonkers, which is all to the good, but some elements of it leave me thinking that they should have someone in the storyoard meetings just to occasionally say 'Less is More'. The rabbit-as-Wallace wasn't funny, but was actually rather cringe-inducing. The village characters were too forced.

You can never criticse the evident talent in production from Aardman - it looks amazing of course. But I can't help feeling that they dropped the ball a bit on the storyline this time.
