Cha Yeong-mi's voiceover near end

Great film, but that nearly ruined the whole thing for me. Anyone who's stuck with this movie to the end clearly remembers what she said to him earlier about her organization. OF COURSE that's who they are and why they're there!
She may as well have said directly to the audience, "You see, what had happened was, in case you forgot the dialogue bit which occured in the last hour..."
Spoonfed endings like this assume the audience is entirely comprised of idiots with short attention spans. I would love to see a version of this movie with that particular audio bit cut.

"I'll tell you something if you won't think I'm crazy...I've got grasshoppers taped to my back."

reply

Hm.. while I did feel the movie was incredibly confusing and the end audio bit did come off as extremely unnecessary, I'm sure there is a deeper meaning to the reason for her audio.

...or maybe Park Chan-wook really did miscalculate astronomically haha. I have no idea. :P

reply

I loved the "elliptic" script.. right until that scene. Man, that was unnecessary!!

"Gentlemen, you can't fight in here! This is the War Room."

reply

Haha, God... you guys are really stupid, no offense...

That wasn't supposed to be "HEY, REMEMBER THAT, YOU DUMBASSES?" moment.

Just like you all remembered what the girl said at the moment you saw the gang, the voiceover was PARK'S MIND remembering what the girl said and making the connection. The director wasn't explaining anything to the audience, that was the character thinking and finally understanding the situation.

There are only 2 things that can never be restored: The past and Christian Slater's career.

I was confused, because I thought she was bluffing. When the cop said she was the only member of the terrorist group, I really did not expect Park to be killed by the terrorist group. My first guess was that they were fired employees. That made much more sense, because the film was clearly indicating that there was no terrorist group. Very confusing for me.

I have to add that the version I saw had no subtitles for any written word (except Ryus spoken words). If someone could tell me, what was written on the note they put on his Chest, I would be grateful :) /// found answer in other threads already. no need to reply.

I disagree with the OP and hereby confess, that I am one of the confused. I find it exaggerated to say that the voice over was spoon-feeding stupid peopleā€¦ Keep in mind that the movie WAS indicating that there was no terrorist group.

reply

Absolutely agree OP. It wasn't just the added piece of exposition that was disappointing, but the fact that they had the perfect ending shot right before it. The camera should have cut to black while lingering on the jeep after the 4 men walked past the camera. That would have been brilliant.

reply

Ha, I came here to post this, it bothered me as well.

reply

Especially considering how little of the movie feels the need to really explain anything, that was rather jarring.'

Really if they really felt the need the note they put on him should've been enough. The voice over was very literally telling to the audience.

I'd have been fine with it being left open as well.
