I Reject Alex Dying

They really should have just left Alex and Clear out of this movie. The first movie is beautifully constructed by the creators of "The X-Files" and the sequel makers just aren't at that level.

The original's logic worked very well and should have just been left alone. Do what you want with the sequels, but just use your own new set of characters and do with them whatever you want.

Also, Devon Sawa wasn't in this movie because of a contract dispute, which is the only reason why Alex "dies" in the sequel.
