HARRY POTTER AND THE BIBLE

I personally am against Harry Potter. When I first heard about the books (around the time that the whole Harry Potter "craze" started) I wanted to get into it like many of the other people who were talking about it. However, when I talked to my mom about it she warned me against it.

Later on I saw a book at my church (I am Christian) called Harry Potter and The Bible, intrigued I decided to read it. I found the book very informing. I also found out that the Christian religion is strongly against Sorcery and Witchcraft.

The more I read into the book the more I also found out about the sources the author used to gain information for Harry Potter, many of them are direct links to the Occult. This all frightened me very much. I found out that Harry Potter is not simply innocent fun, it has real references to ancient witchcraft practices and sorcery. I hope that everyone who reads this looks more into what I am saying. It is truely evil material that people are dealing with. Don't laugh at what I am saying and dismiss it as nonsense, just look into it more.

Clearly The Bible says that witchcraft is evil:

"There shall not be found among you anyone who ...practices witchcraft, or a soothsayer, or one who interprets omens, or a sorcerer, or one who conjures spells, or a medium, or a spiritist, or one who calls up the dead. For all who do these things are an abomination to the LORD, and because of these abominations the LORD your God drives them out from before you. You shall be blameless before the LORD your God. For these nations which you will dispossess listened to soothsayers and diviners; but as for you, the LORD your God has not appointed such for you." - Deut. 18:10-14

Aside from the fact that it promotes witchcraft Harry's BEHAVIOR during the film and in the books is not model behavior for children. He breaks set rules yet always seems to get out of punishment!! This sets bad examples for children, teaching them that rule breaking is fun and acceptable!

I hope this helps some of you out who were perhaps questioning the "innocence" of Harry Potter and even those who weren't. I also reccomend reading Harry Potter and the Bible. It really has a lot of good information.

I also found the following links to be useful:

The fact is, witchcraft is NOT a fantasy, it is a reality, it is really practiced by real people, who use spells etc.!! There is even a religion formed around witchcraft called Wicca!! Harry Potter just promotes this and encourages children and adults to turn away from God and to invistigate sinful things. Please don't let this happen to your children or you...put a stop to Harry Potter!!

That's how my dad was until I gave him this argument. The fact is that movies like Cinderella (sorry bad spelling) have magic which is "witchcraft" and I bet you don't see anything wrong with that, do you?!? Nope...and I bet you don't see anything wrong with little kids believing in Santa also. But guess what, Santa "uses magic" to go down the chimny (don't worry people, i dont believe in Santa, this is just logic-lol) too! So now my dad has all the movies and buys all the books for me. This changed his mind, what about yours? Anyways, some of those books and movies against Harry Potter make it sound way worse then it really is. That's the real reason why my dad was against it. One night at this night church thingy they had every sunday, they played "one of those movies against Harry Potter" and they did something that that really made me mad. Boy was I mad! Anyways, in the third year Harry gets angry at his uncle's sister and he loses a little control over his powers and she begins to swell up like a ballon. They obviosly weren't going to lie but they tryed (and you could really, really tell) as hard as they could to make it sound like he blew her up into a million pieces without actully saying it. But, he never did blow her into a million pieces. So you should truly see what Harry Potter is before going to other sources.

And my other opinion is that its alright to read it as long as you don't believe it. I mean, whats the harm?!? There is none. Besides, Harry Potter is a great story that everyone loves. There is plenty of good lessons to it like friendship, bravery, and fighting for what you believe. As long as you don't study or believe it, your good. Thats the way I see it and everyone I know agrees.

But, I also have no problems with other opinions. I just thought you should see my logic. Personally, I think its pretty good.

Oh, and just so you know, this is from a Christian too.

Well I must say that I am not at all strongly religious and no I have NOT read all of the bible.I have read all of the books many times and seen the movies at least one hundred times.I think that the people that are against Harry Potter do not understand that it is ONLY a story. I have not heard any news of children becoming members of the wicca religion because of the series.I have not been affected by the books in any way that harms me....wait...I'm burning!!!!!!!AHHHHHHHHH......HAHA. I'm sorry for the people that are boycotting Harry Potter but you will never be taken seriously and you will definitely not stop the fans from reading the books or watching the movies.

I'm Christian, and i've read all the Harry Potter books and have seen all the movies. I'm not Catholic but I think if what someone said earlier in this thread was true about the pope reading Harry Potter than that's awesome. The argument over these is just like the argument over the Da Vinci code. But I have a few things to say.

1. Harry Potter and the Da Vinci Code are FICTION, which means that the stuff in them isn't true.

2. THEY ARE FICTION

3. THEY ARE FICTION

and 4. (this one is about the Da Vinci Code) the Catholic church actually did do all the stuff that is mentioned in both Da Vinci Code and Angels and Demons (like steal from various cultures that they met up with.) there are also books that were intended for the bible that the church removed because they didn't show what the catholics wanted.

oh books like Lord of the Rings and Chronicles of Narnia have magic in them but we have them in our church library. I guess it also just depends on who writes them. J.R.R. Tolkien was a Christian and so was C.S. Lewis (when he wrote Chronicles), but J.K. Rowling in a single mother, who gave birth out of wedlock. So maybe peoples concern with these books has to do with content or maybe its because of the writers backgrounds.

If magic is so evil:
A) Harry Potter is NOT real! The spells are NOT real, the creatures are NOT real (well the normal ones like cats and owls are, but...) and the places are NOT real!
B) If magic is so horrible for messing with the fabric of the world please remind me how raising the dead, turning water into wine, walking across water, splitting a great big river and all the other "miracles" do not mess with the fabric of existence...

It's a book, it is fiction, it was not written to 'influence' you to try and cast magic or get into witchcraft. It is for entertainment! Do you like Lord of the Rings? There's magic in there. How about Pee-Wee's Playhouse, the genie granted wishes. That's magic.

You are correct, the Bible does say that. But it doensn't say reading about it is bad. Just doing witchcraft is bad. If what you are saying is true than the Bible is evil because it talks about witchcraft too. By reading Harry Potter doesn't mean you are doing witchcraft, it means you are....reading about it. If we shouldn't read Harry Potter than you shouldn't read the Bible because, as you just showed us, clearly the Bible mentions witchcraft quite a few times.

Really, I can totally see how reading a book can be sinful. those books aren't meant to make you practice witchcraft, they're simply meant to entertain you. i could understand if you don't like them simply because you just don't like the books for what they are, but i don't get why people hate them because they think they're EEEVIL. i mean c'mon, if God didn't want the books to be published, he obviously would have made it so.

Also, I should point out that the author of the books, J.K. Rowling is religious and regularly goes to church.

I get what you're coming at, though I don't fully agree, even though I am also a Christian. I enjoy playing Dungeons and Dragons and watching shows like The Mummy, Van Helsing, Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings...all with magical aspects. My point of view is, they're fake. Yes, there's magic in them, butI don't believe it's real. I used to wish magic was real, and I was a magician, but I accept that it isn't and that I'm not. These things are bad for your faith if you believe in them, but just reading or watching them isn't bad.

After all, my favourite series of books is Left Behind, though my favourite genre is fantasy/adventure, so I like that kind of stuff.
