HARRY POTTER AND THE BIBLE

I personally am against Harry Potter. When I first heard about the books (around the time that the whole Harry Potter "craze" started) I wanted to get into it like many of the other people who were talking about it. However, when I talked to my mom about it she warned me against it.

Later on I saw a book at my church (I am Christian) called Harry Potter and The Bible, intrigued I decided to read it. I found the book very informing. I also found out that the Christian religion is strongly against Sorcery and Witchcraft.

The more I read into the book the more I also found out about the sources the author used to gain information for Harry Potter, many of them are direct links to the Occult. This all frightened me very much. I found out that Harry Potter is not simply innocent fun, it has real references to ancient witchcraft practices and sorcery. I hope that everyone who reads this looks more into what I am saying. It is truely evil material that people are dealing with. Don't laugh at what I am saying and dismiss it as nonsense, just look into it more.

Clearly The Bible says that witchcraft is evil:

"There shall not be found among you anyone who ...practices witchcraft, or a soothsayer, or one who interprets omens, or a sorcerer, or one who conjures spells, or a medium, or a spiritist, or one who calls up the dead. For all who do these things are an abomination to the LORD, and because of these abominations the LORD your God drives them out from before you. You shall be blameless before the LORD your God. For these nations which you will dispossess listened to soothsayers and diviners; but as for you, the LORD your God has not appointed such for you." - Deut. 18:10-14

Aside from the fact that it promotes witchcraft Harry's BEHAVIOR during the film and in the books is not model behavior for children. He breaks set rules yet always seems to get out of punishment!! This sets bad examples for children, teaching them that rule breaking is fun and acceptable!

I hope this helps some of you out who were perhaps questioning the "innocence" of Harry Potter and even those who weren't. I also reccomend reading Harry Potter and the Bible. It really has a lot of good information.

I also found the following links to be useful:

The fact is, witchcraft is NOT a fantasy, it is a reality, it is really practiced by real people, who use spells etc.!! There is even a religion formed around witchcraft called Wicca!! Harry Potter just promotes this and encourages children and adults to turn away from God and to invistigate sinful things. Please don't let this happen to your children or you...put a stop to Harry Potter!!

I personally can see how you could think that. Witchcraft as an act is sinful but the religion surrounding it is not. Witches (when they are believed to exist)don't use spells as seen in HP rather they use is to envoke nature and the elements which if you take the bible literally was also done by Jesus in many of his miracles.

If the Pope reads and enjoys Harry Potter, then as a Catholic, I believe that the books are not evil.

Also a side note - if you look at many tribes across the world you can see that both witchcraft and Christianity can exist together and in the case of the Azandi Tribe have a symbiotic relationship.

Ugh... (This is just all so stupid.)

JKR with her books promotes courage, loyalty, standing up for what's right, facing your fears, bravely breaking rules in order to selflessly help others, dealing with very hard times, dealing with losses, growing up, and always choosing to do the right thing over the wrong one no matter how tempting it may be.

If Jesus had thirty seconds to convey his message (whether or not he actually existed but that's a subject for another time, another place) then he pretty much would have conveyed the aforementioned. Courage, loyalty, strength, help others, live above the crap, live justly.

Now as far as the Bible: its MANMADE, written by men from centuries ago, all that stuff they wrote dealt with matters back then, not universally for all time. Big stuff got lost in translation over the years, biased asses edited and modified it over the past 2,000 years to fit their views, the Old Testament is handed down from the Jews addressing their own religion. So for all you Christians--seriously, don't read so much into it! It's just a book of verse.

As long as we all can agree on the aforementioned message of doing good things and living right, then NO MORE ARGUING. Everyone can live in civility. Enough of this high-hatted crap about "my church is better than your beliefs". It's prejudice, conceited, and just has to stop.

Stop believing something someone else told you! You should be very embarrassed because we're all laughing.

As for Wicca. It's not witchcraft. If anything, in my eyes, it's a right-hand path following ancient pagan ways, long before Christianity ever came around. If anyone should be scrutinized, it's the Church. Leave the Wiccans alone. Their spells and rituals and stuff are all about helping people and being friendly. If you're allowed to believe in what I think is utter nonsense, then you should tolerate the beliefs of others too.

Let the people read their books about kids growing up in a big fun way, and get off your high horse.

Magic isn't real. You sound just as crazy as the people who claim they're witches.

I realise it's really a bit late to reply to this topic, but I was browsing IMDb and this old video game title came up and I decided to check out the forums.

I am very sorry that the original topic poster has not even given Harry Potter a chance, and just taken someone else's word for it. Harry Potter has nothing to do with evil, and it does not promote satanistic or occult views. Is Harry Potter real? No, it's a fantasy story. Is witchcraft real? Of course not. What are we even arguing about?

I am a European Christian myself (mainstream, not a brainwashed one, thank goodness) and my parents are both priests in the protestant church. We all love Harry Potter, and the original poster of this topic might have too, if he/she had ever tried it. Without spoiling, in case someone hasn't read/seen the final book/movie yet, Harry can even be viewed as an avatar for Christ himself. He repeatedly sacrifices himself to save others and destroy evil. JK Rowling has personally stated that she believes in God.

Thanks for reading.
