Does anybody know if Naslund did in fact, escape temporarily from him and he caught her again? Was Janice Ott forced to watch as Denise was murdered right in front of her? I have always been fascinated by the whole story about him.

I don't think she ever escaped him like in this movie, just dramatic effect. But one of the girls was in fact killed in front of the other, Ted mentions this in the book The Only Living Witness.
