I posted another inquiry about this song-it is driving me CRAZY-tell me. I watched the outtakes on my DVD-I saw that one of the musicians in the band introduced the red-headed singer as "Koeppel". He stated in his line that he had to keep re-purchasing all of John Norman Howard's records because his father kept throwing them out, and that it was really great to meet him. He is a RedHead-WHO is this GUY? Anyone know his name? Omg-you are SO RIGHT!! I LOVE the way your brain works-and I hadn't thought of this-he WAS looking at it in the application of the ANESTHESIA, NOT the fact that a simple number (8) was at the bottom of the charts, and he DID have WAY too much faith in the hospital, as well as in his abilities, and his superior intelligence. Thank you so much for the thoughtful response! I sincerely appreciate it. Good point. HOWEVER, being the chief of anesthesiology, I am wondering how could he NOT know, when that WAS his job-feeding the patients the gas they needed to be knocked out in order to have surgery and ultimately obtain the organs for harvesting. I still wonder about it. Thank you so much for your answer/input. What a FANTASTIC idea! You just explained ALL of my questions! Than you so much!! I don't follow-could you explain please? @Bonnieparkerfan-YEP! That's EXACTLY what I thought too-that Barksdale, when he said to him it would probably never happen again, meant that Billy Joe would probably never have sex with another man again. Billy Joe, however, knew that he was gay, or at least BISEXUAL, and couldn't accept it himself. Question for you: you mentioned the anesthesiologist being in on it, the doctor played by Rip Torn. Is he in on it? Or is he just an arrogant asshole? I mean, at the end of the movie when she is in Widmark's office, she says to him, "YOU'RE George"-implying that she thought the anesthesiologist was Dr. George. So was Widmark alone or was Rip Torn involved too? Just curious: do you know if the affair had anything to do with it? I mean, I know he did some damage, but I am wondering if it screwed her up for the rest of her life. Did her husband commit suicide too? I read he died four years later. Hell no! I too, lo this and feel this is an often overlooked 'gem'. They certainly don't make 'em like this anymore! I too liked how they kept the suspense up for the ENTIRE FILM! Loved it! View all replies >
