I co-wrote this movie

I can answer your burning Sorority Boys questions...

reply

First I would like to say, awesome job with this movie. I've never been much of a fan of this sort theme/storyline (involving frats/sororities etc), so I was pleasantly surprised when I saw it. The script and storyline was amusing, as well as strong performances from the cast. I've recommended this movie to some of my friends who have not seen it yet. To anyone else who hasn't seen it, it's worth checking out this gem.

By the way, are you working on anything at the moment?

reply

dude, i haveto commend you with just a hillarious movie, i <3ed it, so funny.
I also think that its really cool that you are doing this, talking to us like this, this is the first board ive ever been to where one of the writers has posted like this before. I wish more were like you ^_^
anyways, great job on an awesome movie, keep up the good work

Honestly, I love hearing that people like the movie. I'm shameless. And I get a kick out of posting. Thanks, dude.

reply

Thanks! Yes I'm working on several things. It's not easy getting projects to the big screen, but I'm trying!

I just watched this for the first time on Comedy Central and I was wondering whether that kid who roofied Adam/Adina actually had sex with him/her while he/she was passed out?

there's an email address in this thread... sorry I don't know it off the top of my head. email me there.

reply

Yes. In our minds Adam got a taste of his own medicine. In that last bar scene, there's that flashback of Adam passed out and Jimmy behind him.

It's a mystery why the studio would not actually show gay date butt rape.

Perhaps "*beep* you", based on position in the comments, was a poorly worded:
"Wow, it is remarkably touching how two male writers, a male director, a male producer, and a male executive prducer can so sensitively portray the body image issues and objectification women must deal with everyday, such as using date rape, humiliation and violation for comedy and trying to justify it using a feeble 'he-got-his-in-the-end' pun-intended pseudo-moral that hasn't been funny since the 60's."

... but it's just a theory.

reply

Yeah, yer right. This guy is a real a-hole for not making Schindler's List 2: Schindler's Revenge! Why don't you enjoy the movie for what it is; a two hour diversion from our daily grind. I've not watched certain movies deemed 'great' (Million Dollar Baby) just because I'm not in the mood for a heavily acted out drama.

My suggestion is to look at the positive side of things, and not the negative. You'll be a lot happier in real life.

What inspired you to make this movie Joe?

reply

[deleted]

My name is Joe and I’m addicted to South Park re-runs.

reply

MONEY.

reply

As much as I get what you are saying (your comment actually made me laugh, being that I consider sarcasm an art - one that you used quite well, btw), I have to agree with sublight35, in a way. I guess this movie was just meant to be dumb and make some money, possibly making some ppl laugh. It's what it is, and I don't think anyone is trying to make more of it. Don't take me wrong, you comment is actually rather accurate as to what the movie portrayed. I think it's just not worth you time complaining about it.

Actually, we tried to get a female director.

reply

what do you think of your co-writer Greg Coolidge?

reply

Wow there's so many questions i'd like to ask about not just the movie but how you got into writing etc .. is there any way I can contact you? if you could email me I would be greatful .. [email protected]

it's up to you .. if you dont trust me and think i'm a little kid that's going to spam you or something then that's fine,

Thanks.

Hello, my name is Roberta, uh, and Im addicted to porn and constantly masturbate. LOL! Classic

reply

As an O.U. dude, do you know O.U. alum Robert Peters? He's a great character actor, who's short film got short listed for Oscar in 2001-ish.

And your movie has the last on-screen appearance for Dean Wormer, me thinks.

reply

Don't know Robert Peters (I don't think)

Dean Wormer rocks.

Sorry, ISLA_SORNA, I just saw your post. I got a new girlfriend in September and have neglected this message board. I'm still trying to get my website ready for prime time with message board etc. But in the meantime, check out

Greg is brilliantly talented. DO NOT MISS EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH. Check it out on IMDB right now. I just saw a screening at Lion’s Gate last night. If you liked SB’s, you will LOVE Employee of the Month.

I'm sorry!

Man! I loved this movie (just finished watching it).

How long did it take to film this? I bet the scenes had to be redone a good many times because of people cracking up...

This is great I can finnally ask my burning question. Where did that voice of Spence come from? It's so bizzare yet so funny.

reply

I recognize the voice from somewhere, but I can't put my finger on it! This is really annoying me . . .

You can't argue with my logic! Well, you can, but I won't listen! - Angry Midget AKA me.

That was his own acting choice - along with the director's input.

Budget was a healthy 16 million, don't recall how long to shoot. But the overall project took around 18 months from pitch sale to post.

Me and my sister really loved this movie. I wasn't expecting much and when the credits rolled, I had a new favourite movie. So many awesome lines. The thing I think we girls liked about it is that you actually managed to look at girls in a regular light. The farting, the periods, the bitching, you name it. I don't know if you intended it, but I actually ended up relating to the boys in drag. (Having all these pressures put on you to be a certain way as a girl, and it's damned difficult!).

The stoner scenes with Doofer and the girls is one of my favourites, by the way. It's at that point I start really chortling. Good work on the script, man.

(And I envy you being on the field when all those hot actresses were getting wet and muddy. Hot damn!)

you haven't posted in a while but in case you still browse the board to see what people have to say...i love the movie. honestly, i prefer dramas - films like crash, lost in translation, being john malkovich, etc. but i'm not a snob all of the time, and i feel that there is always room for a crazy comedy like wedding crashers and anchorman! and i would like to say that sorority girls is one of those movies that is just TOO funny to deny, regardless of how crude the humor is. there are so many funny lines, it is amazing. granted, it isnt an intellectual movie at all, but it is so hysterical, it makes the splurge worth it! adams "i have a FAT ASS" after being harassed. robertas "make it sting girls" at the bong party. daves strut and various episodes with the DOG president. oh haha and the loud girl with the crazy hair - SO FUNNY.

so, thanks for writing such a funny movie...that also had the little bit of "respect women" concept in it. the movie is so funny because they begin as SUCH jerks, but by the end of the movie they learn a little bit and change their ways a bit, which makes the movie even easier to love, because of that bit of satisfaction it gives. i mean i just graduated high school and as everyone knows, most of the guys are as*holes and most of the girls are pretty *beep* stupid too! so great job! i mean yeah it has it flaws, but who cares when there are so funny funny parts :)

reply

THANKS. Yeah, been away from the board. Met a girl. Oops. Glad you laughed. That's the whole point.

reply

THANKS.

The whole point was for our "guys" to "see behind the curtain" - and experience the effort it takes to be a girl.

I couldn't help but notice the Blade Runner influences in this movie and subtle literary references to William Gibson's novel Neuromancer. But I have to ask -- as a writer, do you regret not vying for a science fiction theme with a more original and less derivative aesthetic? Or is that not in the control of the writers?

That said, Sorority Boys still seemed more targeted to the B-movie approach to science fiction, with a low budget but aiming for plot and camera tricks to achieve effects with passable results. In fact, you know a science fiction movie is low-budget when there ARE NO spaceships, laser guns, or Wookiees. What I also want to know is -- Are YOU satisfied with the director and cinematographer's handling of your screenplay? Why did they edit out Garghosh Viivuxul, the maniacal dictator from Pluto, as the original villain of Sorority Boys? I thought this movie had potential as a science fiction CLASS before the suits butchered it!

Well, Simmons’ Hyperion WAS my favorite bedtime story as a kid. My daddy would don a gold “Hegemony Council” robe and read it cover to cover, his bald head flushed and beaded with sweat. I felt as if I, myself, had entered a farcaster portal. I always dozed off as we skipped toward the time tombs in that whole Wizard of Oz "off to see the shrike" motif at the end.

Hey! I hope this thread is still open and Joe is still talking! I actually really liked this movie. I guess you can say I have a thing for silly comedies. This is the kind of movie I could just watch over and over because it was just fun over all. There are a lot of deep and meaningful movies out there- it’s nice to have the light a comedy to relieve your brain once in awhile!! I suppose I really don't have any big questions about the movie right now. Just wanted to show my support! Well actually....can you hook me up with Michael Rosenbaum? hah : D

reply

lol, this movie was on last night! I love it..so hilarious- and not just saying it cause most people have. But I really think so. But some bits...were in my opinion a bit to much. No examples.lol. Anyways, fell asleep halfway through cause I had to turn the tv off since I had school the next day for the reason it was on pretty late. Great movie. ;)

Anyways. cheers.

I loved this movie! I'm a feminist earth-mother type but thought everything about this movie was hilarious. I especially liked the parody of the women's studies professor/course - nobody should take themselves too seriously! I look forward to seeing anything else you guys might put together.
