Bebop fans also fans of Firefly/serenity?

Hi peeps, I saw the series first on adult swim, (ty adult swim for everything, esp aqhf, and CB) and then i rented the movie. I love the series and the movie, i like the series a bit better. I put off seeing Serenity cause the horrible trailer but im glad i caught it in the theatre, i loved it. I was really happy when i found out that Firefly was the series that serenity was based on. I had no idea they were connecteed untill i saw a firefly marathin on sci-fi channel. Anyway, i was wondering if anyone on this board enjoys both firefly and bebop. They are very similar and both well done. Im glad that i syumbled onto these shows because im not really an amime fan or a sci-fi fan. Im just interested in hearing from other fans, im going to finish this and watch session 2 on dvd, it just came in the mail. I've never watched the entire series, ive just seen whatever i could on adult swim. Gotta go.

I thought Serenity was alright, but I'm afraid I personally don't like Firefly. It's Joss Whedon's cutesy, unrealistic dialogue being done to death in Buffy that put me off. I really wanted to like it, but all the characters do exactly what you'd expect: Mal is brash and makes the decisions, Zoe's the reasonable one, Wash makes jokes, Inara is fan service, Jayne is antagonistic, Kaylee makes cute comments, Simon is quiet and thoughtful and River is there to mumble annoyingly to make people panic when anything scary happens. And from the first episode this doesn't change throughout the whole series and they always, always act predictably. I know they didn't get the run they expected, though, and it would probably have improved given a chance, but it is still no where in the same league story, character and style-wise as Bebop.

I'm Dexter Morgan. I... can't think of anything clever to say.

I like both series. It's been a long time since I've watched either Firefly or Cowboy Bebop in their entirety, so I need to rectify that, but they're both excellent series in their own regards.

Count me in as someone who loves Cowboy Bebop, Firefly and Serenity. I would give the edge to Bebop, though. But they're all great in their own right.

Cowboy Bebop being my favorite show, I was extremely excited to here so much praise for Firefly from fans of Cowboy Bebop. Sure enough, I loved Firefly too.

I got onto Cowboy Bebop because I was looking for something similar to Firefly. I actually like Serenity a little more than the TV show and Cowboy Bebop more than Firefly.

My thumbs have gone weird.

reply

Yes, I'm a fan of both.

Firefly: room temp
Cowboy Bebop the Movie: luke warm
Serenity: warm
Cowboy Bebop the series: HOT!

It's obvious to anyone with a brain stem that Firefly/serenity is an offshoot of the three space westerns that took the world by storm in the late 90's, Cowboy Bebop, Outlaw Star and Trigun and would'nt exist without them. It 'borrowed' the characters and story elements from Outlaw Star, the scenery and atmosphere from Trigun and the gravitas, timeline, cartography and action sequences from Bebop.

I like both "Firefly" and "Bebop" (the series and the movie). I'm not a fan of "Serenity", because I don't like killing off characters or the explanation of the Reavers. But generally, both stories have similar elements, and yes, they're both very well done.
