Unbreakable, which came out the year prior. At the end, we find out that by touching the 'demon', Fen or Adam could see what crimes the demon committed. This is the exact same power Bruce Willis has in Unbreakable.

I was taken by surprise in both movies. Even in Frailty, despite having seen Unbreakable. I thought the father was just a nut job going on a killing spree, making up the vision thing.
