What issues could have been solved with Larry's money?

You know how in Seinfeld a TON of episodes would have been easily resolved if they had smartphones?

Well in this show, i feel like a lot of situations would have been solved because Larry is rich.

I'm not saying the show is RUINED by this, i just find it an amusing thought experiment.

An example would be taking in katrina survivors in their house. The man can afford to buy a hotel room for a family, he doesn't have to take strangers into his own home.

Or when that doctor in the early seasons had his wife read larry's script and charged him for it. Just tell him to fuck off and go to another doctor. He can afford to see any doctor in the world.

What are some other examples?

I think you are on the wrong track.
Larry knows he's crazy rich. But he does not want to be taken advantage of for it. So he rarely uses his money to save time or fix problems.
Not only that, he often gets into trouble over things that have little monetary value, or would indeed be solved just by throwing money at them.

He is that proud and stupid, but that is part of his charm.

reply

Agree. Larry is usually stubborn on principal. He wants the world to change because he's made them realize he's right, or else he's so mad about something there's no way he'll buy his way out of it.
I missed the episode where he decided to bring in the Katrina evacuation family so not sure how he got to that decision.

It was the Black family. His "lovely" wife got him into it, of course. Because the best way for rich people to help is to take ONE family into their home, not pay to house more of them. Dumbass Cheryl and her charity ideas.

I don't know how I skipped that one but yes, Cheryl.
Good riddance to Cheryl.
But bringing on Leon (JB Smoove) was the best thing that ever happened to Curb.

reply

Yeah, that's why he doesn't use money. I get why, it's still frustrating many times to see how easily he could have solved those issues.

The early seasons as well when he just didn't have cash on him at all. When he couldn't pay the parking attended for example.

I don't know. What I do know is the show has gone downhill since Season 4. It was fresh, funny, really different those first four seasons. I could tell by Season 5 it was getting a bit tired. By around Season 7 I'd had my fill. I believe Larry David still does CYE. If he does, he should give it up. It was getting tired fifteen years ago - I can't imagine what it's like now. You know what, I just remembered the last time I took an interest in CYE - it was the season of the "Seinfeld" reunion. I can remember during that season saying to myself, several times in fact, "The humor is starting to repeat itself".

I thought pretty must all the seasons were great, with an occasional dog or an episode that was not so great - EXCEPT for Season 11. It was really crap. Not only because it wasn't very funny, but because they stuck that ugly fat Latina girl in that role for so long making her look so terrible - it was humiliating and hard to watch.

The side characters were on automatic, Jeff and Susie were trying too hard to be their characters.

It just wasn't the same, and it was very disappointing.

There were some things in Season 10 that were not so funny too, like the toilets.

This series, to me, was pretty consistently funny, dipped a bit in S10, but then took a real nosedive in S11.

Larry should probably do a "This is the Final Season" type of thing.

reply

LOL, his history with that is not good.

reply

Maria Sofia (Keyla Mejia) was one of the funniest additions.
But I wouldn't expect anyone calling her fat and ugly to have been able to give her a fair shot.

reply

You definitely would have solved the humor problem ... by removing it. ;-)

reply

Nah, there's still plenty of situations with Larry saying/doing something he shouldn't have, nothing to do with money then.

reply

It was a joke, kid. But all jokes have a serious side, and removing issues with money would have removed a good part of the things that were grist for Larry's humor.
