Life Is Beautiful. I saw it shortly after I got married, and I asked my husband to answer honestly -- would he have done that for the little boy. "Sure," he said. "Why not? What have you got to lose? And it'd keep the boy from being scared." It seemed preposterous until it hit me I'd married that man.

The Pianist is good -- better than Schindler's List, in fact. It was far more accurate in telling what the life was really like. For people who won't read history it gives people a glimpse into the hell of the Warsaw ghetto that they'd have no clue about otherwise. And sadly, we've become a world of non-readers.

Each is a great movie, but each is trying to do something completely different. You're comparing apples and oranges.
