why is legally blonde called legally blonde?

reply

Like the joke, she is so dumb that she must must have been blond in a previous life. But then she realizes he is the dummy & she can do better.

reply

Because shes in law school and shes blonde. Its pretty simple when you think about it

Because shes in law school and shes blonde

i think there's more to it than that

its a reference... on the outside she looks like a miss america, blonde hair, big boobs... shes the Marilyn, not the Jackie... and throughout the movie she is trying to prove to others as well as to herself, there is more to her than just her looks... and that Blonde Bimbo girls are more than just make-up and fashion, but they have good heart, are good friends and are smart too... she proves she is legally blonde - that she should be taken seriously and be treated equally like others, even though she likes to be goofy, light-hearted and open-minded (or more like eccentric) than others... she is proving that not all blonde miss america are dumb, therefore Legally blonde... at least thats how i understood it... what u think???

reply

well i think that's the best reason so far

reply

Um... It's a play on words.... legally blind... legally blonde. Good grief you guys

reply

Seriously. I am so glad someone finally mentioned "legally blind". Guess I thought everyone knew that phrase. Building on that, justice is blind, which indirectly ties in with the whole courtroom thing.

Just to confirm: you are kidding, right?

reply

no i'm not kidding. i understand that the film is about a blonde person who goes to law school. its just that the name sounds like it should be a pun or something, its not like 'legally blonde' is a common phrase or anything. or is it?

reply

I'm not entirely convinced you're not just joking, but the phrase you're looking for is:

"legally blind."

reply

i wasn't joking. it had never occurred to me that it was a play on 'legally blind'. thank you for your answer

reply

I never thought of a play on words of "legally blind" either. Perhaps I should have been blonde.

The original title was actually Legally Bombed, with the film intended to be far more dark in tone.
The story concerned Miss Elle Woods - a perky and popular college student, who turns to the bottle after her boyfriend ditches her for a smarter girl and law school.
Elle also enrolls at Harvard to show her ex that she's just as intelligent; unfortunately, Elle spends more time at keggers than in the classroom. She also wanders around the campus in a drunken haze, randomly yapping at people, "DO YOU KNOW WHO I AM?! WELL, DO YOU?!"
Too bad the plot was altered, as we know now that Reese would have nailed it.

That's actually an excellent idea for a sequel. Get an agent, quick, to peddle the option.
