One of the worst comedies I've ever seen.

I love movies, and I especially love comedy. I love a good smart comedy like The Birdcage as much as I love Dumb and Dumber. My favorite movie is Ferris Bueller's Day Off. But this movie...

The first time I saw it, my friend invited me over to watch it. I had to sit there and pretend to laugh. It was like... painful. I felt I had to laugh at it because my friend thought it was so funny. I couldn't just walk out and say "This sucks, man."

So my opinion of this movie may just stem from a painful first experience. Maybe it's funny when you watch it with like six of your buddies.

But I can't believe the dude's making a sequel... guess he has a good fan base. ::Shrug::

I shut it off after the first 10 minutes.

"My nuts to your fist style!!!"

"Master Tang, I implore you to reconsider!"
"Hmmm . . . OKAY!"

"You go that way, I'll go home!"

"THAT'S A LOTTA NUTS!!!"

"My finger points!"

This movie has some of the most brilliantly idiotic quotes ever. I love Steve Oedekerk.

reply

I kinda like it but Steve's voice dubbing for all characters is annoying.

The first time you see Kung Pow you're like "Gosh there is astoundingly little humor to be observed." But the second time you’re like “I swear that’s the best thing I’ve ever seen” that is unless you’re prefer watching “Drama and Greg” and therefore should be shoot.

ITS SOOO CLOSE TO THE NEXT KUNGPOW!!!! This movie has so many little hidden jokes and hard to notice images. Like the Titanic in the water, the orca in the water fall, and the dead fish the chosen one holds during the stick beating with betty. The people who do not like this movie just don't like "random". They are down to earth and cant accept a random action. They feel the NEED to understand anything. And as for the people who didnt like it after the first ten minutes didn't like the Zoom in scene. I allmost died of laughter during it but I can see how someone might find it annoying. I give this movie a 10/10

This movie has one classic moment that EVERYONE laughed at. When Chosen One is a baby rolling down a hill & the old lady finds him, picks him up, then she says, "So cute. Bye, bye." That part was classic. Everyone laughed, my sister hated the movie & she laughed at that part. And the narrarator's voice is classic, especially when he talks about the guy's "stomach plug"!

reply

I unfortunatly have not seen this but what I'd like to know is why people must bash a movie they didn't like. I like this kind of humor and love kung-fu movies so when I saw the trailer to it on the Hot Shots part deux DVD, I new it was meant to be a spoof of how low budget kung fu movies are. If you didn't like it then shut up and go discuss a movie you do like. And if you do like a movie don't call a guy stupid because he doesn't like the style or the actor be mature. And always remeber humor doesn't have to follow logic.

I watched it 11 times, tommorow is my birthday so me and my friends are going to take out the wine, absinth, jagermaister, vodka, beer, and buy some more beer and wine and kill ourselves in the booze, food and kung pow.

I think this is one of the funniest movies ive ever seen.
Also I like Stan Brakage movies and idiosentric stuff like Erarserhead.

So this movie is either an aquaired taste, or I have a high sense of humor.

reply

DUDE if you dont laughf at this movie holy *beep* you must be one boring motherfucckker. uptight

reply

I couldn't finish seeing it. It would have been a pretty cool movie if it weren't for the squeaky voices which irritated me.

reply

stop it just stop it.. you're telling me that this is the WORSE movie you've ever seen? the worse?!

Then you haven't peeked at House of the Dead. Because I am certain NO ONE liked that movie. (at least we can all agree on this!)

reply

There was only one good thing about house of the dead, that u get to see erica durance (Lois from smallville) naked. I think she got implants cuz she looks way better now. And Kung pow is one of the best movies of all time. But i understand why some of you hate it, my group of freinds are split on it. I dont care though, KUNG POW KICKS ALLS OF YALLS BUTTOCKS!!!!!

reply

I think all you pseudo intellects should get off your high horses and watch the movie with an open mind. It wasn't meant to be smart and witty, and it was funny because of it's sheer randomness and stupidity. You'd probably enjoy the movie if you weren't all so insecure about your 'intelligence' and maturity, leading you to deny any humour you find in this movie just so you can feel smart and 'fit in'. If you really hated the movie, why would you bother coming here and addressing it so vigorously with flawed arguments? This movie is not witty and smart enough for you, why bother with it? Oh thats right, you've come here to protect and flaunt your so called 'intelligence' and reclaim it back by bashing this movie.
Go you!
I'm open minded and accept opinions, but I do not accept flawed arguments with bad logic. Which evidently all of you against Kung Pow are providing. Claiming this is one of the 'worst comedies' is a pretty big assertion. Though it has absolutely no merit or strong founded argument. Topic creator seems real intelligent and mature.
*pats your head*
Now go off and play near traffic.

So quirky, so random, so impossible, so stupid, so lame.... so BAD, it's GREAT =D

one of my favorite movies. I love it, and can't wait to see the sequel. yes, there's a sequel coming out this year.

It's not supposed to be a masterful, artistic, beautiful, INTELLIGENT movie. just stupid-funny. I respect those of you that aren't fond of this type of humor or whatever, but don't judge it like other movies. it's in its own category.

NOTHING can compare to the piece of unholy filth that was House of the Dead! NOTHING!!

-Look I put footage of the game in the scenes. The movie looks exactly like the game right guys? You can't tell the difference! The asian girl that wears an american flag bikini happens to know martial arts! And G is here! Oh he only says one line in the film ("And I'm G") but it's still cool right? Rite?!-

(Yes that movie scarred me. It was the only film in the movie theater that me and my older brother could watch before it closed for the night. Needless to say, I died a little that day.)

Back on topic, you should really take kung pow as it is- a silly overdub of an old martial arts film retold as a boy's journey into a man, voiced by one man. It's a niche comedy that wasn't to the liking of OP. Oh well, I liked it though.

reply

What can I say that has not been made abundantely clear by others? The fact of the matter is, I know where you are coming from and I know that countless people will think that you are wrong. I had the same reaction to Dumb and Dumber; I just didn't get it.

Yes, this is the stupidest movie that has ever been made INTENTIONALLY. I mean to say that there have been worse, but none that were worse and campy. I mean, it's retarded. And not once did I stop laughing through this films entirety.

Meh? Different strokes for different folks,
David

Everyone seems to give this either a 0/10 or a 10/10. People who gave it a 0/10 should at least appreciate the originality. Correct me if I'm wrong but this type of movie is a completely new and original idea, thats what I found so appealing about it. Someone was trying something different and that should be worth a couple points whether you enjoyed it or not. However some gags did get quite tired after a little while (coming from quite a fan of the movie) so I'd have to give it a 10/10 for originality and maybe a 7/10 overall. And those who gave it a 10/10, c'mon, it isn't the perfect movie.

I'd also like to note that Steve Oedekerk is into original ideas and those who liked kung pow should try and check out his thumb movies, not awesome but also pretty entertaining parodies.

This is the most funny movie I have ever seen, I have seen it maybe 15 times.

reply

it is pretty awfull

reply

The movie is the greates cult comedies ever, have seen it like 16 times. As said much on the board we also often use quotes in daily friendly talk. It's too much fun.

Every sentence a joke even the editing is a joke. The movie is just one big joke, more than most movies. Except that it has some storyline, almost too much ;)

But I can understand the ones who don't understand the movie, you gotta like the stupidness, stuff like beavis and butthead. It's phonetical humor. The voices are extremly great dubbed by Steve. Alone the nonsensical dialoge between Ling and Betty "wheeooo wheeeoeoeoe" "hrgmgmrhggl". No words but great intonation ;)

Favorite stupid quote:

Killing is wrong. And bad. There should be a new, stronger word for killing. Like badwrong, or badong. Yes, killing is badong. From this moment, I will stand for the opposite of killing: gnodab.

reply

badong! this movie is so full of quotes that can be appled to so many things... and my friends and I have.

The dubbing was great, with the actual dialogue... a riot! but it was especiallly funny when the words would NOT match the mouth movements, like when "dog" barks.

Kung Pow, overall, is a movie that I can easily watch repeatedly. I find it to be hilarious, and I don't care if it's stupid. Much of it is wonderful, but there are some things that do bother me.

The cow scene. I actually have to skip this part whenever I watch it because it is one of the only things in the movie that I do not find amusing. Tired Matrix jokes really aren't funny. Also, I kind of ignore the whole French alien thing. It's stupid, like the whole film, but it goes beyond that. It seems forced and really lame. The tongue is also annoying.

So, whenever I watch the movie, I kind of block these certain things out of my mind. But to me, just about all the rest of the movie makes me laugh.

reply

I agree totally with faerymaidenkore. All those parts I don't care for, either. I first learned of this movie when my kids were watching tv and laughing hysterically. I wanted to see a movie that would make people laugh so hard. It was great! You just have to have the right sense of humor to like this. I have friends that we share a lot in common with, but I know they would hate this movie. That doesn't make anyone wrong or stupid; it's just what makes the world go around.

reply

This movie is one of those movies where you either absolutely love it or hate it

reply

There are some redeeming qualities about the film. First off, they use actual archive footage of a '70s kung fu movie. As a big fan of those cheesy old flicks, I know that the direction they were going in was to make the genre even more corny than it once was. That's how you describe this movie: corny. There are some moments that are too over-the-top, and some that are just right. If they edit in the right line at the right moment, it really becomes a piece of work.

I don't know about a sequel... I havn't heard anything about it. It's not unusual to advertise a sequel at the end of the movie and not follow up on it. Remember Mel Brooks' History of the World: Part I?

reply

I absolutely HATED it when I first saw it, but when my friend wanted so desperately to see it more often, I actually started to understand better of how it's funny.

I don't know who the poster was, but he/she was right. I had no clue what I was about to see, and it was so different. That's why I hated it. But obviously, it's one of my favorites now. Lost my copy, though. Oh well.

reply

this is one of my all time favorites. I saw it first in a car on my way to a soccer game, recently I finally got my hands on a copy and watched it with one of my friends who loves it also but none of got to watch the entire movie. We laughed, cried, laughed and cried some more, then talked about some stupid lines for a week and wouldnt stop laughing everytime we say it. Its rediculesly funny and ingenius too. Its stupid but VERY VERY smart in making it stupid. 10/10.

reply

Every time i get involved in one of these posts someone always says: "you shouldn't cut someone down for what thay like or don't like." (not always in those words) I mean it is true but this is an online forum not a formal debate so please everyone stop saying people shouldn't insult other people i find it hilarious oh and the movie it was a blast, totally not what i expected through sub-par trailors as far as parodies go, it's a must see.

paranoia is just another word for ignorance HST
