Enjoyed it in spite of myself

So I was wandering around Netflix and came across this movie. I knew it was adapted from the same series as Interview with the Vampire, though also of its less than stellar reputation, and because it was free I thought, "Why not?"

I got the sense that it wasn't a particularly good movie, but I think it inadvertently triggered a nostalgic part of my brain. As I said, I'd never seen it before. But pretty much everything about it, for better or for worse, screamed "Early 2000's" in a nutshell with things like the visual look and the music. All the gloss and NuMetal. Even the crummy blur effects for the "vampire speed" somehow registered like that. I was newly into my double digits in that era so naturally like any person's childhood they felt like the better times. And somehow during a bloody vampire movie those factors resonated with me in a bizarre way.

Anybody else have this kind of experience with any movie? I dunno, this weird response was so strong I felt that I had to talk about it somewhere. 

Haha I'm watching it right now on Netflix as well, and although it isn't too good, it brings back those far off childhood memories. It reminds me of movies from that time period, like Deep Blue Sea, and of those snap cases that DVDs are never released in anymore.

Yes but you probably felt guilty about it afterwards.

I'm older than you and remember my childhood movies from the late 70s/early 80s and then my teen years later on. I get what you're saying about nostalgia triggers that arise after you've forgotten about them. But for me, that happened more vividly when I returned to Disneyland 3 years ago after not visiting it since 1997. But what was triggered were my childhood memories of smell and sounds, particularly the screeching metal of the rides and the smell of pumped water used throughout the park and its attractions.

I enjoy this movie and don't feel guilty about it
