shareIt's a settling the score kind of thing.
At some stage of his ancestory his family adopted the name of the Family for which they were slaves. At the end he's playing Golf with the guy selling him the castle, a true blood descendant of the MacElroy Clan. He sees buying this castle and emulating the life of a real MacElroy as some kind of ironic payback. He says (shortly in to the credits):
"This is the Tartan of my Slave Masters. I now claim his Castle and his land as my own?"
Just before he putts and strips off to add further insult and a show of disrespect. He probally thinks the idea of a black man like himself walking naked through the long-standing family home of the family that ensalved his ancestors is hilarious and he'd love to think of them as rolling over in their graves.
He's achieved revenge for himself and his ancestors and in a wonderfully ironic kind of way.

Naah, he knew that he would be on an aeroplane with a lot of big black guys wearing dresses and he just wanted to blend in...

It's our humour, we always use ironic insults to call someone- usually opposites or irony? Which Yanks usually miss... share
Because he claims he's descended from slaves that were owned by the family who belongs to that tartan.
Although it's fine for the movie, it doesn't make much sense since traditionally tartans aren't assosciated with specific clans/families.
