HE HAS DISTINCT PEAKS AND VALLEYS...THE FIRST FILM BEING THE "BEST" IS NORMAL...SAME AS FIRST ALBUMS...SO MUCH TIME AND THOUGHT GO INTO THAT FIRST CREATION...HARDLY EVER MATCHED ON LATER WORK.

I disagree.

His first few wide-release films were the best, no doubt about that. But I wouldn't put them in order from 1 to 4.

Signs may actually be my favorite M. Night film. After that, Unbreakable is probably the "better" film, but I might enjoy The Village more. At the very least I've felt compelled to watch The Village more often.

The Sixth Sense, which often is regarded as his best film, I actually put at the bottom of the four. It's a good movie, yes, but it's also the least rewatchable of all his early efforts and doesn't have the same consistent entertainment value.
