I would love this movie, if only....

.... somebody, other than Arye Gross, were cast in the main role... I've seen the movie twice and I just do not like him, he's unattractive physically and more importantly he's uninteresting/boring... otherwise, I loved the premise, the setting the other characters... he just ruins the movie for me... I'm sorry, I just can't get around him...

This is super weird. I myself found Arye Gross to have been incredibly attractive in a cute, ordinary way. I'm just disappointed there weren't more shirtless scenes of the bloke.

On the other hand I found both Pike and Dean to be unattractive :/

I can see though that my tastes belong in the minority. Which is good because it means more hotties for me :D

I like Arye Gross in the role, but I didn't find him attractive.

Dean is supposed to be the real hottie and he looks good shirtless, but he didn't do it for me, either.

But I've been drooling over Pike Dexter ever since I first saw the movie...

I liked Arye Gross and the entire cast. Can't we all relate to a movie with a bunch of average looking folks? For once we get a nice gay themed movie without a bunch of hotties sniffing around for sex.

This is a great movie. I gave it a 9. That's how much I admire it.

I thought Arye Gross was fine in this movie. He's a brilliant character actor and here he played a gay character instead of a gay caricature*.

I loved Arye in this role. I've always loved his work, and as his career progressed, he did move into more character roles (see his creepy turn as the pre-murderer in 'Minority Report'). He's great in his early comedies, too. He was hilarious as "Gordon Bloomfeld, of the Marina del Rey Bloomfelds" in 'Soul Man'. Now I want to look up some of his other, early stuff.

I think his character just kept things close to the vest. He was more quiet and analytical, even about his relationship with Dean. That's why I think he and Pike are perfect for each other in the end.

I honestly wouldn't have liked this movie even without Arye Gross, but he certainly made me hate it more than I would have with another actor. I think the scene that really got to me was where one of the women in town referred to him as "good looking" in front of her group of friends. Really?

There was absolutely nothing attractive about his character. It'd be one thing if he was an ugly guy with a really great personality, but his character was incredibly whiny, dull, and self-involved. The kind of person nobody ever wants to be around.

Stay back, geek! It's about to get tragic. 

I found him plenty attractive. Your opinion is just that.

reply

Exactly. It's my opinion he sucks. You have yours, I have mine. And mine is right.

Wow I'm surprised at the dislike of the main character. I didn't think he was amazing in this or anything but he played the part well. I think he was meant to be likable and unlikable at the same time. He was so proud of his life in New York and had become so detached from his family that he is bound to come off as selfish and uncaring at times. I think the fact that he does have inner demons and seemed to be having a hard time with sticking around for too long and used to running away gives him depth and likability. I could relate with that. I thought he did a good job balancing those characteristics.
I will agree with the physical attractiveness because he wasn't my cup of tea but I believe that someone like him could attract a partner. Pike was my eye candy in this movie for sure. I loved his simplicity and heart..can't believe some people thought he wasn't interesting. Not everyone has to be over the top in their personality to be intriguing.
