Poisonous Snake
I thought snakes were only venomous not poisonous.
Oversight or are there poisonous snakes?
Even so how could it be poisonous only if it bites you?

In answer to your question, technically snakes are venomous and not poisonous. The difference being that a venomous creature injects poison into the victim; through a sting, bite or whatever.
A poisonous creature's flesh is poisonous so if you eat it, you are poisoned.
However, that is only technically. In everyday language we don't generally differentiate between the terms.
