I thought when you collected 5 cherries, a Super Star would appear. Start floating across the screen. You know, the kind that makes you invincible for a little while.

I just replayed this last week for the first time in decades. I know its not a true mario game, but I love it nonetheless. Yup, cherries get you a invincible star.
