Sobol's training molded a terrific fighting force in Easy Company. That doesn't excuse his sadism.

One must acknowledge Sobol's contribution to Easy's superior preparation for war. But surely there were other heroic units that fought just as capably, that were not subjected to Sobol-style abusive tactics. One wonders how Easy would have fared had they had a natural leader like Dick Winters from the start.

I read the book Ambrose wrote that this series was based upon. When he asked the surviving members of Easy Company if they were trained well because of or in spite of Sobel's actions, they replied (according to the author) "because of" or "
because of and in spite of" Sobel's actions.

Even after Sobol was taken away from Easy Company, he was put in charge of another school to train soldiers. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Herbert_Sobel

Interesting. In the series, doesn't Col Sink say the transfer will have him training non-com's?
