I don't know *beep* about scientology or the book this is based on but as a fan of sci-fi movies I thought this was a pretty cool concept for a movie. It definitely could have been done better and had less plot holes to be more believable but a 2.4 rating? I have seen complete *beep* movies way worse then this that are rated 3 - 4 on here lol. There are a lot worse sci-fi movies I have seen that have higher ratings too (almost everything on netflix under sci-fi for example). I guess since Travolta was in it and it had a decent sized ad campaign a bunch of people that hate sci-fi to begin with are rating it. If you like sci-fi or post-apocalyptic type stuff and can ignore a few stupid oversights (not nearly as bad as an average sci-fi channel movie) I think you will enjoy this.

It's a bad movie, but it doesn't deserve the rating it has. 3.5-4.5 would be more appropriate.

I rated this movie as a 1, yes a one, because I was in a generous mood.

Me for one, this movie is just god awful from beginning to end. It is NOT one fo those, "it's so bad it's good, movies" is it just a BAD movie.

I LOVE sci fi. This is just a bad, silly movie.

I would rate it 10 for entertainment value based on so bad it's good.

But, it's truly garbage and it deserves a 1.

When this flopped, scamtology distanced themselves from it. After micromanaging ever aspect of it.

For that, for exposing the silliness of LRH and his money making cult...I give it an 11!

It's a bad movie. But based on the quality of the film alone one might expect it to be somewhere in the 4-5 range. The reason it sits at 2.x is obviously the Scientology connection. Most of those who have rated the film on IMDB probably haven't even seen it.

BS. I don't care about the Scientology connection. The movie was horrible. I've seen it several times but not because it's a good movie. I watched it because it's so bad it's hilarious.

The reason for the rating on this film being so low is because of the book. I have read several of Hubbard's novels and some of them aren't that bad but this book is awful. Having said that, the film didn't do the book justice, it is one of the worst acted, poorly directed, badly filmed, excruciatingly dialogued pieces of Armadillo droppings it has ever been my misfortune to watch. In my humble opinion, 2.4 is precisely 2.5 too high.

I agree, some of Ron Hubbard's Golden age stories are pretty good ("Final Blackout" "Typewriter In The Sky") but Battlefield Earth is just plain tedious.
Agree that the film book, though pretty bad,does not have all the stupid impossibilities that the film has.

yes I have enjoyed some of his works especially the books with Jettero Heller in them. (For some reason I can't remember the title)
