I do not understand it, it has horror part, cheesy, weird effects and characters do not feel right, then it trys to show grand ideas but it is like this cartoon film
It is harmless and not always terrible but maybe they were confused to what type film they want to make. Nobody knows not even us
I kinda liked it despite its flaws. It has a certain charm to it. And plus, any film that features a Van Halen song is okay in my book.
However, I do like to compare this film to Red Planet, which is another Mars film that slightly missed the mark. I think M2M might be a little better than RP but they both entertain the audience without being too presumptuous or even pretentious which is another word movie geeks like to use to describe films.
The more recent marsploitation film, The Martian, is the best of the 3 though. It actually has a pretty solid story backing it up. It's still kinda similar to M2M though.
I much prefer The Martian but yes can see how they are similar. I think in this movie it is similar to Prometheus where these characters do not feel like space people, like space explorer guys, so it feels wrong from the start.
And the ending feel like they throw in some 2001 type mystery. Strange film.

I'm thirty minutes in and I keep wondering if this is satire. The effects are cheesy (although the 'thing' that grabbed them 20 minutes in is cool); the dialog is ridiculously mundane. The BBQ opening was boiler-plate for this type of film. And don't get me started on that Van Halen scene. Um ... they're going to find out what happened to their friends based on a horrifying transmission yet let's 'dance the night away'. (And it was a ridiculously long edit of the song for this purpose.) I will continue watching the movie and if it gets any better, come back here and eat my hat.

It tries (and fails) to catch enough of the 1950s vibe without coming off like a B-Film. The soundtrack alone is a victim of how poorly this was executed. Get a better soundtrack and lose that bizarre computer voice bullshit and it would have been a much more enjoyable film.
